It is not always clear either, some people hide it. You can know someone so well but not see they are struggling because how well they hide it. checking in on friends or family helps show someone is there.

The biggest takeaway I have from this presentation was how common mental illnesses are. There are also many different forms of mental illness that is not always talked about like adhd and ocd disorder.

Be sure to really check in on others. You don’t know what others are going through because they’re good at hiding it. Don’t condemn them, but be empathetic. We also need to break a lot of stigma too, because it’s worsening and not helping those with mental illness. The last video we watched was so impactful, I hope others took away something from it.

I was surprised by the fact that unaddressed mental illnesses often leads to poverty, homelessness, and unemployment. I never thought about the affects it can have on life in this type of way.

I didn’t know that there was that many different forms of divorce. Divorce is more common then people imagine, and It is sad that people have to go through this complicated process. The group gave plenty of evidence and reasoning in their presentation :)

One thing I didn’t know about was how much effort legally it takes to get divorced. One of my biggest takeaways was that it took on average a year and on average $10,000 to get divorced. Combined with the amount of legal work and effort it is surprising how common divorces are.

I was unaware there were different types of divorce. Based off the different types of different I understand why others have been effected differently by a divorce (most likely wasn’t the same form). The divorce rates are also pretty high, however IL is the second lowest

I didn’t know that divorce was/ has been judged upon by society. In my mind being or getting divorced shouldn’t be “not excepted”

I can’t imagine how someone would feel if they experienced a love one dying. Especially sudden death, but there is many different causes of death, like different health conditions and accidents.

It’s crazy how young a substance abuse can effect someone, no one that’s 12 years old should be effected by drugs. It is also tragic how many people actually have a substance abuse, because the percentage is more then you may realize.

I was shocked to see the statistics of how high percentage of people abuse substances. When they shared how 130 Americans die per day from opioid overdose is insane. It was interesting to realize how many things can lead people into substance abuse such as illnesses and peer pressure.

I haven’t seen an increase in weed usage even though it’d been legalized. I’m indifferent about it being illegal or legal. Like Mrs Monahan said you just have to be self aware and understand the circumstances of using a drug.

I didn’t know that there was three different types of suicide. Now I know what to look out for and the warning signs that a loved one may be planning suicide. It’s sad how many young people die from suicide, it’s the 2nd leading cause of death for teens.

I knew that males had a higher rate of suicide than females but I didn’t realize it was 3.7 times that of females. I didn’t know about the different classifications of suicide and how most cases can be related to those three types.

I would have never known that statistically more men commit suicide than women. It also was interesting to hear that it is the second leading cause of death for ages 15-25. After listening to this presentation my biggest takeaway is how suicide doesn’t take the pain away instead it gives the pain to the loved ones affected by the persons death. There is always help to get and it is good to know there are many hotlines available for people who suffer from suicidal thoughts

I honestly did not know there were types of suicide. It’s sad that the numbers are going high, even young people reached the point where they had to commit suicide. Therefore, we should really check in on the people around us because you never know what they are going through.

My biggest take away is that suicide will not put an end to the pain but pass it along to someone else. This was a very familiar line to me because knowing someone who has committed suicide, we were always taught that the pain will never not be there, it’ll just be passed to someone else. This is a sad topic but it is something we need knowledge on to prevent it.

I was not properly educated about abuse before this presentation and this presentation helped me understand how bad of a problem this is. I feel like this topic is not talked about as much as it should be, and is the least talked about of all the relationship crisis we talked about in class, in my opinion.

I did not realize how many people experience abuse. They used the stat where 79 million children are abused. There are also many different treasons that cause someone to get abusive that I would have never thought about such as poverty.

1 in 4 women experiencing physical violence is really high. I was unaware of those numbers as well as 1 in 7 men. Before this presentation I did not know it was this common, i knew the number was big but not this big

There was a ton of important statistics. I liked when they were talking about reasons people abuse others. Xanthes personal story was also touching and definitely a motivation to be able to tell when people specifically kids are getting abused. And how to stop it.
