Tropical storm Cindy has recently affected the Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi coastlines. 60 mph winds, rainfall up to 18.64 inches and floods have harmed this American area. This report will provide some short-term and long-term solutions for this natural disaster.
In cases of emergency, short-term solutions are required. If the storm strength level is low, the best option is to evacuate people in the affected zone before it becomes stronger. If there are just strong winds, stay in your basement. If rainfalls create flooding, find the highest point and go there. If you find both phenomena, move to a high and indoor place. Close all doors and windows, move the furniture towards the doors, in order to avoid water coming in and cover the windows with tape so that the glass doesn't break.
As there are areas which are frequently hurt by tropical storms, it is worth planing some long-term solutions. Building a dam some miles before towns would be the most appropriate answer to this problem, as it would be able to reduce the river water level when the flooding comes. However, if those zones are often rainy easily flooded, it is recommendable to build an aqueduct to transport some water out of the town when the dam limit is overpass and the river flow is high.
To sum up, it is important that governments provide both short-term and long-terms solutions to make sure people are safe.
