Assalamualaikum and Hello. I am Herni Halim from School of Civil Engineering, USM.

 My research interest:

I have been teaching courses related to my research interest for the past 2 semesters. I enjoy sharing knowledge with students and help them to understand new topics. I believe there is always room for improvement in teaching.

I want to improve my teaching skills from this PnP course. Seeing my colleagues started using different teaching techniques after attending this course makes me want to acquire the skills and knowledge for the benefit of the students.

The power of exposure - when you're exposed to new things, you begin to grow as a person.

I always believe that things can be done better with teamwork.  I look forward to gain something new and get to know all of you in the upcoming P&P class.

Aspiration as an academic in USM: 

I would like to be a lecturer who is not only want to educate students, but at the same time I hope to inspire them to take an active interest in education and change their attitudes. Without such inspiration, teaching and learning session will be dull, especially for theoretical subjects like mathematics, and our students can lose their interests completely. To increase students’ participation in class, a lecturer needs to make the learning session fun and memorable for their students. This milestone can be achieved by employing different student-centred strategies and constructivist learning approaches. Thus, by attending this workshop, I hope to learn new techniques and pedagogical approaches in conducting effective lectures and tutorial classes. 

For research, I am a trained applied mathematician. My research employs continuation and simulation methods to improve our predictions of species geographic distributions in nature. I am also interested in modelling the problems in engineering and other biological systems such as epidemiology and ecology. To address these problems, I use deterministic models and stochastic individual-based models. I also use the techniques from differential equations, dynamical systems, numerical continuation and stochastic processes to develop mathematical and computational tools to answer a range of biologically inspired questions. 

In terms of giving back to the society, I believe that we as a lecturer needs to play our parts by conducting community service programmes to help the bottom billions like orphans and also underprivileged students. Hopefully, this can also help to empower the bottom billions so that they can live comfortably and independently in the future. 

 What you hope to learn and achieve from this P&P course? 

As mentioned earlier, I hope to learn new pedagogical approaches in conducting effective classrooms. I also keen to make new friends, and would love to collaborate with others in terms of research. 

 

 

Sebelum mengajar di USM, saya telah mengajar selama 15 tahun di sekolah-sekolah Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia. Dalam tempoh tersebut, saya telah menimba banyak pengalaman dan telah berkhidmat dalam pelbagai jawatan dan bidang. Secara tidak langsung, saya telah dibentuk menjadi seorang guru yang berdedikasi dan bertanggungjawab.

 

Sebagai salah seorang tenaga pengajar di USM, khususnya sebagai pensyarah bahasa Melayu, saya berharap supaya penggunaan bahasa Melayu dapat diperkasakan dalam upacara rasmi USM, termasuklah dalam proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran. 

Di samping itu, saya berharap agar bahasa Melayu dapat dimartabatkan sebagai bahasa ilmu di USM kerana bahasa Melayu tinggi mempunyai nilainya tersendiri dalam mengungkapkan wacana. Dengan cara ini, kita akan dapat membuktikan kepada dunia akademik global bahawa USM merupakan sebuah universiti yang cemerlang dalam pelbagai bidang dan aspek, termasuklah dalam usaha memartabatkan dan memperkasakan bahasa Melayu sebagai bahasa kebangsaan dan bahasa rasmi negara Malaysia. 

 

 

Saya berharap melalui kursus P&P ini saya akan dapat mempelajari pendekatan, kaedah, teknik dan aplikasi pendidikan yang baharu sejajar dengan Revolusi  Industri 4.0 serta bersesuaian dengan  Pelan Pembangunan Pendidikan Malaysia (PPPM) dan Pendidikan 4.0. Di samping itu, saya juga berharap saya akan dapat berkongsi serta menimba ilmu dan pengalaman bersama dengan peserta kursus yang lain.

 

My research interests focus on Power Electronics, Energy Storage, Energy Efficiency and Demand Side Management. My teaching areas mainly cover Power Electronics and Machine Drives.

Academic research is a passion of mine. From my earliest exposure to Electrical and Electronic Engineering, I respected the hard work of developing computer adaptations and cognitive aids to overcome the problem in the world. Besides, I love to teach. During my undergraduate studies, a professor's passion has inspired me to leap on an academic path. I feel it is an honor to pass on my knowledge to students.
 
I have heard all the good things about this P & P course where the participants were introduced with attractive yet effective teaching methods, and no doubt this is going to be a great learning experience for me. I am also looking forward to meeting you guys and I am sure I am gonna learn a lot from each of you!

I am Nor Shariffa Yussof from the School of Industrial Technology.

My research interests are in the area of food nanotechnology, food hydrocolloids and fats and oils. Currently, I am teaching Food Chemistry, Primary Product Technology and Physical Properties of Food.

Honestly, at first, I did not have a deep interest in teaching and never dreamed to be a teacher. My passion was more towards research. This might be due to my lack of teaching experience. My first formal teaching experience was when I officially joined USM in November 2016. I have been assigned to teach 3 subjects and at that time, it was a big challenge to me. However, after teaching for three semesters, I started to have an interest in teaching especially when students enjoy my lecture and gained new knowledge from me. It gave me immense joy and satisfaction. I hope that my interest in teaching will grow more and continue growing day by day. I still have a lot to learn in order to improve my teaching skills and be a good role model to the students. 

This PnP course will be a good platform for me to improve my teaching skills and to gain knowledge on how to be an excellent teacher. After attending this course, I hope that I will be able to adopt all of the new teaching methods and tools such as online learning, flipped classroom, infographic, etc. for my class. 

I would like to share a quote from Imam Malik:

“It is not the knowledge which should come to you, it is you who should come to the knowledge.”    

 

The prophet Muhammad SAW said “…The best of person is the most useful for others,….” [HR Thabrani]. 

Thus, I believe that each of us has certain functions to uphold the organization's mission. We are a basic function of the other functions of this organization.  Each person with a definite function, combined with another person, will be able to create an organization with certain characteristics that are desired. Like the polymeric materials which do not exist without its monomer. Also, no P & P program if no participants has attend even a goal has already been set.  I want to be the useful person.

My research interests focus on synthesis and characterization of mesoporous material, nanoparticle and electrogenerated metal as photocatalyst for degradation of pollutants. My teaching area mainly focus on inorganic and analytical chemistry.

 

I always believe the beautiful thing about knowledge is no one can take it away from you. Learning is a journey to gain a precious and meaningful experience where it should be in a pleasure and enjoyable in any way so we will never forget. 

 

Honestly, I have never been through any formal teaching experience that make it quite challenging  for me to identify what and how the right way to make sure students can understand and stay focus on class. So I hope through this course I can gain some experience and the proper way to make my class interactive so the students can enjoy the learning process. 

My philosophy of life " Life is too short to regret because in the end, it makes you who you are"

My area of specialization are environmental quality and analysis, metal pollution and metal speciation. Currently I’m teaching environmental pollution, environmental management, soil science and ecology classes.

 

My aspiration as an academician is to generate and disperse knowledge through research and education. Hopefully with knowledge, we can progress to be a develop nation. I hope from this P&P course I improve my knowledge on teaching and learning, especially on how current technology can help me teach and for the student to learn better.

 

I believe in "give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."

With the availability of the Internet and Mr. Google, information is widely available online nowadays, hence, my greatest aspiration is to become a friendly Professor, a person who can provide learning experience to inspire learners to gain knowledge themselves.

Assalamualaikum and hello everyone.
My name is Noor Aida Saad. I am a lecturer at River Engineering and Urban Drainage Research Centre (REDAC), which is located at Engineering Campus. My research focus is water and wastewater treatment studies. I am also interested in the application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in any water related studies. So far, I have been teaching a few subjects in School of Civil Engineering and School of Material and Mineral Resources. I really hope that this course could help me to gain more knowledge in teaching methods. It is also a good platform for me to get to know many more colleagues from USM. As an individual, I believe that we all have dreams, but in order to make dreams come into reality, it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline and effort. As an academic, I do agree that

My name is Yazmin Bustami from School of Biological Sciences (PPSKH). My area of specialization includes synthesis and characterization of nanoparticles, manipulation of surface modified nanoparticles for biomolecules attachment and development of nanosensor technology. I have been teaching Practical of Biodiversity and Ecology, Principle of Biochemistry, Biological Instrumentation and Thinking Techniques since first joining USM as an academician in 2016. 

 

My ultimate goal as an academician is to assist and help students to have a good core and fundamental knowledge especially in biotechnology area. For me, if the students have a strong base, they can actually applied the knowledge with a better understanding. Also, I would like to aspire them to be more ‘flexible’ in term of knowledge, to be more ‘interdisciplinary’ in order for them to be more marketability. 

 

I like to talk, a lot. Instead of giving a long boring lecture with full of infos and facts, I really hope that I can learn in this P&P course on how to interact with students effectively as well as to make my class more interesting and accessible.

Saya Mohammad Amir bin Wan Harun, daripada Pengajian Islam Pusat Pengajian Ilmu Kemanusiaan (PPIK).

Baru menyertai keluarga USM dari Mac 2016. Bidang penyelidikan adalah dalam Perubatan Nabawi dan Halal. Saya mengajar subjek Institusi Kekeluargaan Islam (HIS224) dan Prinsip Perundangan Islam (HIS213) di PPIK.

Pengajaran adalah perkongsian, berkongsi itu sesuatu yang memberi kedamaian dalam jiwa. Dalam berkongsi, ada yang menerima dengan baik pemberian yang dihulurkan dan ia menggembirakan hati.  Ada yang menerima separuh  dan ada pula yang menerima sedikit, ia mungkin disebabkan kaedah perkongsian kurang berkesan untuk menzahirkan kepentingan pemberian tersebut kepada penerima. Syukur P&P ini memberikan saya lebih banyak cara untuk memujuk mereka menerima dengan sepenuh hati. Terima kasih Team CDEA & Prof Abd Karim Alias.

Saya berusaha sedaya upaya untuk mengaplikasikan teknologi-teknologi terkini dalam P&P, namun perkembangannya terlalu laju untuk diikuti (mugkin disebabkan saya bukan jenis tech punya orang). Baru guna apps A, Apps B pula diperkenalkan. Baru cuba-cuba belajar apps B, apps C pula keluar. 

Aspirasi saya adalah untuk membangunkan people di sekeliling saya untuk bersama-sama mengubah dunia Akademik ke arah yang lebih baik. 

 

1 ilmu yang paling besar saya perolehi adalah “Ilmu itu bukanlah pengetahuan yang dipelajari kerana ia akan dilupai, tetapi ilmu adalah sesuatu yang dibawa bersama apabila pengetahuan tersebut dilupai”.
