The Hunger Games takes place in a post apocalyptic America, within the nation of Panem. A long period of natural disasters occured to spark the apocalypse, Such as droughts, storms and fires. Sea swallowed much of the land in America. As result, wars were fought for the resources and territory which remained. The result of the wars was Panem, a nation with a rich capitol that ruled over the 13 poorer districts. The poor districts tried to form a revolution against the capitol, but failed. Thi is important because, as result of the districts tring to form a revolution, the capitol instigated the Hunger Games, a last man standing deathmatch in an artificial arena where 1 man and woman from each district except the capitol must compete to be the last one standing.
Katniss, the protagonist, has volunteered to fight in place of her sister in the 74th annual Hunger Games. From the very poor district 12, she must use her witts and knowledge of survival if she hopes to have a chance at winning

I thought this book was a very fun and interesting read. It made me think about our own future, and if things could ever get a bad for us as they are in Panem. I recommend this book for anyone above the age of 14, because this is book that i think can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of age. I originally selected this book because of all the good things ive heard about from friends and peers.
Rating: 8/10- a little slow in the beginning, but the pace picks up nicely towards the middle.
