Each author uses a different in scope to discuss events because. In the story "The Story of an Eyewitness." They focus on the big picture (broad scope), they show the main story. And in the story "Leaving Desire." It is up close and personal, therefore this story has a narrow scope. The broad scope in, "Story of an Eyewitness." Shows the main story, and the destruction, and chaos that the people encounter across the entire city. Some evidence from the text, "Story of an Eyewitness" are "From the three sides conflagration were sweeping down. The fourth side had burned earlier in the day. Another piece of evidence is, "All night these tens of thousands fled before the flames." One way we see narrow scope, in the story "Leaving Desire" is when we meet someone in the story. For example, "Petries house was different from those of his neighbors." Another example that this story "Leaving Desire" is narrow scope is "I am so sorry Mr. Petrie but, no, they won't allow us to take out animals." "I just want to tell you-----thank you, Jesus." This is an example of narrow scope because, It focuses on ones personal life. All and all, "The story of an Eyewitness." Is a broad scope because, it focuses on the big picture, overall in this case the whole city. And in the story "Leaving Desire" is a narrow scope, because it focuses on, personal life, and individual people.

Each story has a different scope and this effects the readers view on the story. In "story of a eyewitness" it has a vary broad scope because it talks about all parts and areas of the city. One example of this is first when it talks about when the people are running from the city and going torts the mountain caring the trunks with all there belongings. Second it talks about when the people are on the mountain and have to leave there trunks behind, and also the man that worth $600,000 and the man that was worth 30,000 and it didn't mater because all the people were running for there life. In the story " letter from New Orleans" it has a vary narrow scope because it only talks about 2 or 3 people. One example that this has a narrow scope is when it talks about one person named Lionel Petrie and when the girl comes to save him and he has to leave and his dog has to stay. Another example of this is when it talks about the family that would not leave and also that it only talks about a small town of 9th ward new organs. Those are some examples that show the differences in scope of the two story's

The two story's both have certain scopes to make the story more entertaining. "Story of an

eyewitness"narrated by Jack London, uses a broad scope to show how the whole city of San

Francisco was affected by the earthquake. "Letter from New Orleans: leaving desire" has a

narrow scope to get up close and personal which each and every character to show how they

were separately affected from Hurricane Katrina. The authors uses different scopes to show the

tragedy of the disasters through broad and narrow scopes. The broad scope tells of the whole

disaster and the entire city which shows how everyone was affected. The broad scope covers

how every one is affected, no ones left out of this disaster. In addition It shows how everyone is

equal in the end which means whether your worth 600,000 dollars or 30,000 no matter what

everyone's affected equally. This author uses narrow scope to show how a few people in

particular was affected. It tells how the Green family didn't want to leave their house and how

Lionel Petrie had to leave his house and his dog. Also how a women was risking her life to get

others to safety. Both authors use either broad or narrow scopes to show how the disaster

affected people's lives. Whether it was the whole city or person for person. They were all

affected one way or another.

Each author uses a different scope to discuss events by describing the events and

characters in different ways. To start off with, In the story, "Story of an Eyewitness" by Jack

London, the broad scope events affect the reader by showing the destruction of the whole city,

but less emotion of the characters in the story. London included a character worth $600,000

"Yesterday morning," he said, "I was worth six - hundred thousand dollars." Also another

character was worth $30,000. Those two men went from having everything to losing it all to the

conflagration."Today is my birthday. Last night I was worth thirty - thousand dollars. I had bought

some delicate fish and things for my birthday dinner. All I have now are these crutches."In

addition, in the story, "Letter from New Orleans" by Jon Lee Anderson, the narrow scope event

only focused on the people of the ninth ward in New Orleans and put us into the victims of the

hurricane's wrath's shoes. When Lionel Petrie had to leave his house and dog behind he felt

upset over his loss. "Petrie gripped the railing of the porch leaned over again, in a kind of slow,

sustained forward lurch, his head down."When Alladio had to take Lionel, she told him that pets

were not allowed to be rescued, she was heartbroken to see a friendship bond break. "Oh God,"

Alladio said under her breath, "I hate this." In Conclusion, with London using a broad scope

approach and Anderson using a narrow scope approach, both stories create a sad or upsetting

emotion.

Each author use a difference in scope to discuss events because one uses a broad scope and one uses a narrow scope. In " Story of an Eyewitness," the broad scope shows how far the fire spread because it covered almost the whole city of San Francisco. The author describes that

"Its business section is wiped out. Its social and residential section is wiped out.

The factories and warehouses, the great stores and newspaper buildings, the

hotels and the palaces of the nabobs are all gone. Remains only the fringe of dwelling houses on the outskirts of what was once San Francisco." This evidence shows the reader that is all the details.

Each author uses a difference in scope to discuss events because the author in the first story the author uses a broad scope which means to get a main sense of the story and it's feeling. The author of the second story uses a narrow scope and that is to focus on the characters personal life and thoughts, feelings and what they are doing. And the first story is called "Story of an Eyewitness" by Jack Landon that takes place in San Francisco and the second story is called "Living desire" by Jon Lee Anderson that takes place in New Orleans. Now let's go into detail about the first story "Story of an Eyewitness". In this story the scope or the central idea of this story is to briefly goes over the characters emotions and there thoughts. But London gives you a big picture in words (imagery) here is an example of imagery from the "Story of an Eyewitness" "From three sides conflagrations (large fire) were sweeping down. The fourth side had been burned earlier in the day. In that direction stood the tottering walls of the Examiner Building, the burned-out Call Building, the smoldering ruins of the Grand Hotel". Just from this it is giving me a sense of chaos in the city of San Francisco. In the second story "Living desire" in new Orleans. The narrow scope takes u to the thought and feelings of the characters for example "I just want to tell you—thank you, Jesus.” Her husband walked over unsteadily to join her. They had stayed at home until just before the hurricane, and then gone to their church. As the water rose, they took refuge in the choir loft. They stayed there for eight days, drinking the water the storm washed in. “We were down to our last two crackers,” she said" which gives me that it was hard to stay alive past the storm. In conclusion that both scopes take a different view on things but both give the reader the idea of what was Happening. In the authors story's are done in different scope but done in the same kind of panic (natural disasters) in both stories, so they both have something in common and something different in one each other.
