Meir Ezra "It's Not My Job!"

According to an Inc. magazine survey,
most executives hate hearing this statement: "It's
not my job."

The same survey found most employees hate
it when they are pulled off to do someone else's job.

For example, the employees of a famous
restaurant in are members of a labor union. They dislike doing other people's
work so much that their union contract covers this point. "We will not do
anyone else's job."

So if someone drops food or dishes on the
floor, the food servers, busboys and cooks may not clean up the mess. The
restaurant manager must either clean the mess or call in a janitor.

The restaurant owner said, "I was
eating with a group of friends to celebrate my wife's birthday when a waiter dropped
a bottle of wine. He just looked at the mess and walked away. No one would
clean it up because of the union contract. So I got up from my meal, grabbed a
mop and cleaned up the wine while the restaurant employees, and my friends, all
watched." Meir
Ezra

Another restaurant has the opposite
problem. These employees are not union members and do not have a union
contract, but the place is a mad house.

You walk in and see a full restaurant,
but no workers. Everyone is off doing something else. The chef comes out of the
bathroom, notices you standing there and yells at a busboy to help you. The
busboy wipes his hands, grabs two menus and takes you to a messy table. The
hostess runs over and helps the busboy clean up while you watch. Your waitress
runs by to answer the telephone. Everyone is doing all the jobs.

So which approach is best? "No one
may do other people's jobs" or "Everyone should do all the business
jobs."

Of course, neither approach is correct.

More
Valuable than Money by Meir Ezra

As
you know, your income depends on other people. You give them something valuable
and they give you money. So even if you think you have nothing to exchange, you
have one valuable
item that people want from you

"Approval
and validation* are often far more valuable than material* rewards and are
usually worked for far harder than mere pay."

-- L. Ron Hubbard (*validation: confirm
something or someone is true, genuine) (*material: physical)

In
a Gallup Organization poll of 2,000 workers, 69% said praise and recognition
from their bosses is more motivating than money. Four out of five workers said
recognition or praise motivates them to do a better job.

Studies
by the US Army prove that soldiers improve their performance 90% of the time
when praised and 30% of the time when criticized. But officers in the US Army
still prefer to criticize and rarely praise anyone.

Thanking
employees is an effective management technique. Every manager and executive
must know how to show appreciation to deserving staff members. Good
acknowledgments encourage better behavior and increased production. Validating
good workers can even help a business recover.

For
example, the owner of a small business had a heart attack and could not work
for a few weeks. He recovered and came back to work and found he had no money
to pay his employees. Instead of asking the employees to leave or borrowing
money to cover payroll, the owner used praise and acknowledgment as
"pay."

Every
employee stayed on board without financial pay for nearly two months. The
morale of the group was tremendous. The operation became profitable and the
team was rewarded with more money than they would have normally received from a
similar job.

You Can Use This
Principle in Other Ways

You
can use this principle in other ways. For example, workers can boost their
success by properly thanking their bosses and coworkers. If your leader and
teammates are succeeding, your chances to succeed improve.

Some
people have the mistaken idea that it is wrong or weak to praise people.
"If I thank him or approve his good work, he'll think I'm inferior."
"I can't validate her good work because she's already making more money
than me." "Even though Joe is my friend, he's also my competition for
the raise so I'm not telling anyone how smart he is."

Of
course, this idea is wrong. For example, successful sports teammates are
constantly approving and encouraging each other with loud yells and slaps.
Without this encouragement, the team and each individual would fail.

Praise
also gets a bad name when you are not sincere. Sarcastic praise or lying about
your admiration can actually hurt your relationships. Validating and
appreciating people only helps you if you are honest.

Tour by Meir Ezra

Business Structures

People
typically do a business structure with the Director on the top with different
departments under it such as marketing, management, sales, accounting, legal.

Meir’s structure is a
very LONG big chart of columns that is on a continuum – a cylindrical chart,
like a barrel. Steve Jobs got from E.
Hubbard the cylindrical chart of 7 areas and Apple took off.

Every
company needs 7 areas, even if the company is just one person. The area that is the lowest defines our
overall product. Shows what they need to produce and how to measure.

Everyone
pushes to same direction so the energy is output, not input = no fighting.

7
areas of the cylindrical chart:

1. Executive

2. Human Resource

3. Sales

4. Treasury

5. Technical

6. Qualitycontrol/correction
division (corrected organization and its people) income/# of people

7. New public

Success
definition: Achieving the postulated (self created truth) results or more of
the desirable results compared to an earlier time. You become the CAUSE of
changes, not the EFFECT.

An
individual who is not working in life to remedy or to make better the actual
conditions which he finds around him is not liable to succeed. And if you want
a good definition of success, it would just be that: a person who can look
around him and see what has to be done, what has to be remedied, what’s actual,
and then actually can do and does do something about it. And that person is
about eighty-four light-years above normal.

How
does one know if he has achieved more, less or the same of the things wanted?
By using MEASUREMENTS. Every area of
our life is measurable.

Without
measurement:

1. one cannot know who won

2. one cannot know if he
failed or succeeded,

3. one cannot know what
needs to be corrected

4. once cannot know if
change is needed

5. one does not know what
is right and what is wrong

6. you can not have
management even if one measures but doesn’t inspect, one cannot manage. It is
here that we have operating on opinions and rumors vs. operating on facts, or
you are guessing.

The
universe is divided in two:

1. those things that can be
measured and;

2. those things that cannot
be measured.

In
business, only one thing cannot be measured:
that which has not been done or produced.

A
person who resists measurements: 1. is
too unorganized and so has no time for anything and is already non productive,
or, 2. is producing nothing of value.

Why
do we need to measure our success? Without measurements we will make mistakes.
Balance sheets are for the government – to show how much taxes we need to pay.
They are not a true picture of success. Many businesses that measure with
profit and loss statements and balance sheets show profit, but the owner has
nothing in their account. Meir’s system
is a different way of measurements, formulas, specific steps to give an
accurate picture of how the business is doing, and how to improve production
and profit.

overwhelming when you see yourself making orderly progress, even in small
amounts, toward your goals.

Do
you ever feel like you are losing ground or failing? If you map out your actual
goal and move one inch closer on a regular basis, you have new power.

Do
you ever feel like you are treading water and going nowhere? It is time for you
to focus on some orderly progress.

How
do you eat an elephant? How do you move a mountain? How do you reach huge
goals? One mouthful, one rock and one step at a time.

Examples:
giving a positive impression to one more person; learning one more new skill;
lessening one bad habit, investing a few more dollars in savings. Daily
progress in a specific direction creates long-term power when the progress is
constant and orderly.

If
you have been dissatisfied with your progress in life, or if you feel
discouraged, overwhelmed or frustrated, make a list of orderly steps you can
take every day and every week. Calm, direct, orderly steps.

Once
you have your strategy worked out there is no need to worry about the past or
the future-just concentrate on the present; on the steps of this plan. By
putting order into your progress, nothing and nobody can stop you.

A
mountain creek is more powerful than a granite boulder when the creek slowly
and surely wears the boulder down. Orderly progress toward your goals starts
with small, positive steps.

You
can generate new power from this week forward. Deciding to have orderly
progress is the first step.

Meir Ezra Proven
Ideas Make You Affluent

George
was tired of being broke.

Every
day was a struggle. "How will I pay my bills? I'm going deeper into debt.
I can't afford to buy anything."

So
George constantly worked on new ways to make money. "If I could invent a
new can opener, all my money problems would be over. Maybe I could sell funny
hats on the Internet. If I found some investors, I could open a new underwater
restaurant."

George
had tried a few ideas, such as manufacturing a razor blade that never got dull,
building the world's largest tree swing and selling lamps made of salt. All his
new ventures had failed. To survive, he had to work at McDonald's as an
assistant manager.

George
felt he should solve his money problems with new untried ideas. Unfortunately,
unproven ideas are often wrong.

Affluence

"Affluence*
Attainment, consists of . . . Doing the things that won, not new things untried
as yet." -- L. Ron Hubbard

(Affluence:
abundance; wealth)

In
other words, you cause an affluence, not from new ideas, but from things that
have already worked. Even new ideas that create wealth are based on several proven ideas.

George
decides to try out this approach. He asks himself, "What has made me money
in the past?" He lists the following:

•
Selling shoes at a store paid $350 per week.

•
Selling sunglasses at weekend festivals paid $1000 per weekend.

•
Buying old cars, fixing them up and selling them. The last car he restored, a
1961 Ford Mustang, earned $1500 profit with two weeks of work.

•
Working at McDonald's pays $560 per week.

George
realizes he can go back to his two best-paying jobs immediately: sunglasses and
car restoration.

He
convinces the sunglass company to give him 200 pairs on credit so he can sell
them at an outdoor market that weekend. He then finds a wrecked 1988 Mercedes
and makes a deal to buy it for $500, on credit.

George
quits his McDonald's job. He makes $800 selling sunglasses that weekend. He
spends three weeks on the Mercedes and sells it for $4500.

George
uses old, proven ideas to boost his income.
