Introduction

This genre is very out of my one immediate cultural milieu. I tend to listen to chill alternative and indie types of music. My favorite music is the kind that I know every word to and can sing along and also put it on in the back ground to study. This “extreme” metal genre could not be more different from the music on my playlists. The instrumental is aggravating. It gives me a migraine because it feels like a constant banging in my head. And to further this feeling, the so called “vocals” is actually more along the lines of screaming. Some songs, however, have a powerful meaning within the lyrics, but the sounds behind them are so irritating, I can’t even bring myself to try to listen for them. The Quietus article describes the album as “thick and layered, it is both rich and monumental”, but I think it as disturbing and frankly exorbitant.

By the same band Carcass, "Unfit for Human Consumption" is a very disturbing song. The lyrics (which I had to look up because I couldn't understand the screaming) entailed devouring and cadaver dogs.
