I image the speaker who has some difficulties in his life (for me the speaker is a male) and he has to make a very important decision but he isn't sure how to act. So once he had a metaphorical dream that let him realize everything. In his dream, he is standing in a forest. It's autumn morning and the speaker sees the two paths to get out of the forest. The first one is bright and it is sunny and in general, it seems very attractive. The other one is darker with bushes and low branches and is not so easy to go through. He compares these two ways and tries to decide which one is better. Finally, he chooses the second one and the path leads him to a better life.

Memories

My first memory is connected with a song. Their themes are very close. This song is in Russian and is being performed by famous Belarusian singer Max Korzh. The title might be translated as "2 kinds of people" ("2 типа людей") and the song is about the fact that there are two contrast kinds of people (e.x. leaders and followers, cheaters and honest, ambitious and passive etc.) and it is your choice whom to be, whom to trust and whom to be friends with. And such a choice is very alike to the one in the poem.

Another memory that came to my mind is connected with entrance to the university. I didn't have grate marks for final exams, but they were not bad anyway. They were enough to enter the local university on a grant, but they were also enough to enter the universities in bigger cities without the grant. On the one hand, the university in my hometown isn't so prestigious and the education itself in the bigger cities is said to be better but on the other hand, there wasn't the grant and moving to another city all along scared me. So I chose the easier way.

The third memory came to me because two days ago I finished reading a book. The book itself doesn't matter because the situation is common for every second one. There is a girl and two guys who are in love with her. The one is rich and is ready to give everything to her but the other one is not rich at all but he is the one whom she loves from the bottom of her heart. And of course, there must be difficulties that don't let her be together with the second guy. And here is the choice between easy money and a good life and love that need to be fought for.

The Speaker

I'm not sure that I can tell a lot about the speaker so I have to pretend to be Sherlock Holms and to make the speaker's portrait of the sand-small details.
Firstly, I can say that a speaker is a wise man. He doesn't let emotions to make a decision and try to make the right choice through comparing paths.
He is quite intelligent (maybe even well-educated). He used such words as "undergrowth", "to diverge", "to tread" and "hence". They don't seem to be widely-spread in everyday speech (I'm sorry if I am mistaken)
And finally, he preferred less attractive, the "less traveled by" path, because he believed it would be better for him and what is more he wasn't scared to take an unknown unlearnt path. He is strong and brave.

I think the poem is eternally meaningful because the choices are something we face all the time. We always compare options and try to decide what is easier or more attractive but very often we forget that options are only paths and we need to compare something that waits for us in the end. I don't think I have ever looked at the choices in such a way but the poem made me come to this conclusion. Even now I'm trying to look deeper while making decisions. if the poem has such an influence on me why can't it have the same on other people? I believe the poem made to think about it all the people who had ever read it.
