They also agreed to set up four zones of occupation within the nation, one for US, one for Soviet Union, one for Great Britain, and one for France. Stalin also agreed to set up free elections in Eastern Europe and that he would join the Asian war on the side of Japan<br><br><strong>B. Who attended? (The Big Three)<br></strong>The Big Three attended the Yalta Conference, these included Winston Churchill from Great Britain, Joseph Stalin from the Soviet Union, and Franklin D.          <description><![CDATA[<div>A. NATO (Who Set it up?)<br>NATO is an alliance of the Western nations during the division of Europe in the Cold War that was set up in 1949. It was set up by the US, UK, Iceland, Luxembourg, Belgium, Netherlands, Canada, France, Italy, Portugal, Denmark, Norway, and was set up as a security pact to protect each other from the Communist Soviets.<br><br>B. Truman Doctrine (purpose) 1947<br>The Truman Doctrine were the ideals that President Truman had for anti-Communist nations in Europe. He wanted to help aid the countries that were against the spread of Communism with money and support, and to also protect them from Communist aggression. The Us first aided Turkey and Greece with $400 million.<br><br>C. Marshall Plan (what happened and why)<br>The Marshall Plan was an economic from the US to help the Western Nations of Europe rebuild after the destruction of WWII. The US gave 12.5 billion dollars through this plan to Europe.<br><br>D. Cuban Missile Crisis and Bay of Pigs.<br>The Bay of Pigs was a failed Invasion of Cuba. The CIA had initially trained Cuban refugees to invade Cuba and make it look that the US had no involvement. Cuban dictator, Fidel Castro, had already known of the invasion and quickly put a stop to it at an island shore known as the Bay of Pigs. The Cuban Missile The Cuban Missile Crisis happened a year after in 1962 when Kennedy came to notice that the Soviets had built Nuclear weapons in Cuba 90 miles off of US soil. President Kennedy responded by putting a Naval blockade around Cuba, this tension between the two was the closest the war ever got to being nuclear. This all ended when Kennedy agreed to not invade Cuba and secretly take their Nukes out of Turkey as long as the USSR took theirs out of Cuba.<br><br>E. Containment (what was it and what was its goal)<br>The policy of containment was the US policy of trying to stop the spread of Communism. It's goal was to contain Communism from spreading around the world.</div>]]></description>

What did Stalin say about free elections after WWII?<br><br>After World War II Stalin promised that Eastern nations controlled by the USSR would have free elections.<br><br>C. Warsaw Pact (what was it a response to)<br>The Warsaw Pact was the alliance the USSR forced upon the Eastern Communist nations saying that they would have each other's back against the West. It was the USSR's response to NATO.</div>]]></description>

How did it affect the Soviet Union and America<br>It affected both of their standards on education as you needed to be educated in order to be in NASA, it affected their economy as it was expensive to pay for education and to pay for the ships and the missions. It also was another competition between the two as a new war front had been introduced, the space front where they could see who was better technologically.<br><br>B. What events were important in the Space Race<br>Soviet Union launched Sputnik I into space in 1957, first satellite to orbit Earth.  In 1959 Soviets put the first probe on the moon, Luna 2. In 1961 first man to orbit Earth. 1969 Neill Armstrong lands on man, first man, puts an end to the Space Race.</div>]]></description>

It was a poxy war because the North was supported by the Communist Soviet Union and the South was supported by the United States and France.&nbsp;<br><br>B. Korea<br>The Korean war was a war Between the North and South regions of Vietnam. The South was non-communist nation and the North was full Communist. After the North initially was overpowering the South, the UN intervened sending a mix of 15 of their member's troops to help stop the attack. This was a proxy war because once again it was Non communism vs Communism, and both sides were either supported by the US or the USSR.</div>]]></description>
