Smoking is still legal, second hand smoke is not. The impacts of ATVs are real. significant, measurable and have been studied by professional planners. The impacts include noise at unhealthful levels, erosion of trails at greater rates, dust and fumes, safety concerns from reckless driving  and  aggressive attitudes of drivers, driving off the trail to disturb vegetation, measurable greater disturbance to wildlife,  and

Each ATV trailer rig will have to pass through town twice to get to and from the lot, then after riding the loop they will ride their ATVs back and forth through town to go to the restaurant.

Once an ATV parking lot is built there will be no turning back.  With more affluent communities like Aspen and Crested Butte restricting OHV access, the Forest Service needs places like Marble and the LKL to serve as a “dumping ground ” for these machines.

My family camped in the Marble campground for 9 days and hiked up to the mill one day. ATVs are devastating to the environment and wildlife. There have been many studies done on the detrimental impacts. So many people are jollying around at the expense of everyone and everything else. I recommend a strict and low cap on ATVs and mandatory tours with responsible guides. People on ATVs are being destructive and there are way too many of them allowed. Don’t ruin the environment and the peace in Marble. People coming from other places don't understand what havoc they are creating for the locals.
I've tried to hike to the Mill, only to be bombarded with noise, dust, and no chance what so ever to see any wildlife.  It's a joke.  Sure the views are incredible, but that's about it.
I don't live in Marble, but I truly sympathize with the locals. It's absurd.  I'm so sorry for what you're having to put up with.  Something must be done to curb the insanity of noise, pollution...not to mention people doing their business behind a tree. It's awful. It's said there is not enough traffic to start permits, but something has got to be set up sooner than later to protect the environment and the people who call Marble home. It was a remote mountain town with incredible history - maybe one of the last vestiges of a mining town that was no longer a ghost town. It is surrounded by incredible wilderness ecosystems. The rentals of ATV's in town was the beginning of an explosion of ATV use on the Leadking loop. While my hope is that equitable access to wild lands will result in votes which preserve these places, the lack of management of the number of people parking in Marble and blasting around the Leadking Loop is extremely destructive to the residents of Marble, the wildlife in the Crystal drainage and the surrounding ecosystem.
