He welcomed these people with leprosy even when he knew it was a contagious disease that had no cure, and he knew he could develop the disease.</p><p>2. He died of leprosy in 1889.</p><p>3. He brought a church, school, and other establishments to the island to give the lepers of the island hope for their future.</p><p><br/></p><p>St. Damien would be most connected to the Catholic Social Teaching of Solidarity, because he stood with the lepers of Kalaupapa and worked to show outsiders that leprosy was not as contagious as they had made it seem.          <description><![CDATA[<p>Birth Date:</p><p>April 10th, 1930 (currently 93)</p><p><br></p><p>What they are known for:</p><p>Co-founder of the United Farm Workers Association, Dolores Clara Fernandez Huerta is one of the most influential labor activists of the 20th century and a leader of the Chicano civil rights movement. &nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>3 Key Details:</p><ol><li><p>Discrimination she faced throughout her life <strong>motivated her fight for Chicano civil rights. </strong>Such as, being accused of cheating by a teacher who was prejudiced against Hispanics and her brother being brutally beat by white men.</p></li><li><p>In 1962, Huerta and César Chávez founded the <strong>National Farm Workers Association (NFWA)</strong>, the predecessor of the United Farm Workers’ Union (UFW), which formed three year later. There was much resistance against both couples, but the Bradens never stopped supporting the Wades; even throughout the condemnation they received.</p><p><br/></p><p>1. Anne became a civil rights activist after witnessing a march of Black veterans to the Birmingham courthouse for Black suffrage. </p><p>2. She wrote for the Louisville Times when she returned to her hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.</p><p>3.          <description><![CDATA[<p>(March 27th 1935 - July 28th 1981)</p><p><br/></p><p>Blessed Stanley Rother was the first martyr born in the United States and the first U.S. priest to be beatified.</p><p><br/></p><ol><li><p>He completed his studies at Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland, and was ordained a priest on May 25, 1963.</p></li><li><p>While he served in Guatemala, a civil war raged between the militarist government forces and the guerrillas. Eventually, Father Rother’s name appeared on a death list so Father Rother returned home to Oklahoma.          <description><![CDATA[<p>Born: July 18, 1918- Died: December 5, 2013</p><p><br/></p><p>Known For: being the first black president of South Africa, focused on destroying the Apartheid government, and won Nobel peace prize.</p><p><br/></p><p>Nelson lived the majority of his life in Johannesburg and made the most impact in the majority of South Africa.</p><p><br/></p><p>1) He was arrested for sabotage, treason, and violent conspiracy</p><p>2) was sworn into presidency of a new South African government</p><p>3) has a National day in his honor.</p><p><br/></p><p>He contributed to common good by not only bing a spokesman, but also an advocate for racial equality in South Africa.</p><p><br/></p><p>Mandela was big on promoting peace, he on multiple occasions peacefully made and acted in movement dedicated towards equality.
