North East Carolina School is located in Tarboro NC. Our celebration this year is our FFA program and our K-12 program. Our school is academically growing and we are using our resources wisely.

Many districts struggle to recruit and retain qualified teachers due to low pay, high workloads, and burnout. How do we better preserve our education assets.

I see that students, parents, and teachers all have testing anxiety! I think there is too much reliance on testing; some classrooms end up with a focus to teach to the test, rather than building learning communities where students are curious and can explore big questions. While state testing provides data points, I would like to empower school districts to develop means to assess student achievement.

Hear, hear to Andrea's comment about testing. We cannot measure a school's success about tests on a single day! A bad grade can hurt a school community and give the community a bad "feeling" about of school. I say this coming from two great schools who consistently were in the D and C range.

At my elementary school, we adopted The Positivity Project, which was great for both the students and families. It gave everyone a common language to work from. I would love that common language across the state.

Financial Literacy classes so students have the tools to be successful after high school. There is a school that offers it in Durham, but prior students did not have access to it when first offered.

We work hard to make sure teachers feel supported, in a state where it can be challenging to be an educator. That's how we ensure that they stay with us, as well as attract new teachers!

Breaking down the silos and sharing what others are doing. For example, the Wilson county model of including Dept of health in the school. I would love to know how that accomplished that and if the same model could be applied to other counties in the state.
