Am a bit more relaxed and working at a more confident pace. With continuous strength from the almighty and well appreciated guidance i will make it through. I participated in my first discussion and learnt about ethical codes for research, was interesting and i enjoyed every moment of it. I have learnt that job satisfaction and organization commitment is two very important factors in employee performance. It  is the first step in the communication process between management and the researcher. It puts forward the problem and a proposal for addressing that problem. The proposal is presented to management for approval as it provides the reader with all the reasons why the study should be undertaken and all the gainers who will benefit. It also provides information on the design of the project, how the data will be analyzed, the qualifications of the research personnel, and other information such as the time schedule within which the project will be completed. The research report contains similar components and is written in a similar way. However, while the proposal is written to communicate what will be done, the report is written to communicate what was done and findings of the study. The research process may be communicated through oral presentation, it should have and introduction, body and a conclusion. Body language, facial expressions, tone of voice and pace are some great techniques of having an effective impact on the audience you are presenting to. 
I really enjoy this unit as learning about research designs made me feel like I got a bird’s eye view of how the world of business operates, many times we see projects being done but never took the opportunity to know what is the process of reaching stage to stage. I see myself in the future being able to guide my staff in conducting proper research to get good results. My organization will be successful as what i am learning here today is a huge plus to my future, I love to know that I can and not try. This unit has benefited me in many ways; I just did a graded discussion for organization behavior and human resource management on communication in the workplace and i can definitely tie the skills I’ve learnt into the preparation of my proposal as communication is a very important factor in the communication process of the research. The way is paved and my future is bright, knowledge is power, strength is must and discipline is compulsory. Unit 4 has been a guide into the future, looking forward to the others to reinforce my knowledge and thirst for success.

In week 5 I have learnt that research design specifies what the researcher wants to discover about his research, by doing this he or she will see what is the best approach to this research. After doing this the researcher will know what is the best method to use in this process, whether it’s qualitative or quantitative. I learnt that research has four different paradigms and two research designs; however, these paradigms remind me of sociology because the approaches are much like sociological perspectives. This is very interesting to me as I can apply it to my organizational behavior and human resource management course, at the moment we are doing conflict and this help me to see what method of research is more suitable for my project. It also helped me to see what perspective whether its functionalist, interpretivism etc. is good enough to use depending on what you believe you as a researcher would get the best result from. I am really enlightened by this unit as I was really unaware that sociological perspectives can be incorporated into research, I guess when you think about it that is as good as it gets. It makes perfect sense to match the type of research with the type of participants being researched. I can definitely see myself being able to conduct proper research in the future as I know the ways around getting proper information, knowing the difference between qualitative and quantitative method is also two very important factors in getting the proper information for my research. I am confident that whatever I learnt here in this unit will be of great benefit to me, already seeing this benefit in my HRM course and in the research I am about to do for this course. Looking forward to unit 5 as the knowledge am getting make me thirst for more.

It is information collected, stored and processed in a systematic manner to meet research objectives. I learnt that there are different ways to collect data, it can be done manually or electronic and this can also be done using qualitative and quantitative methods. When it’s qualitative the data is in the form of words and quantitative means the data is numerical. The type of data may be from a primary (surveys) or secondary (books) source, as a researcher it is important to know which source and what method best suit your information gathering process. The knowledge of this information has helped me in many ways and in many facets regarding my studies. This unit has helped me a lot in my project and my quiz, I appreciate the information the course coordinator placed in her power point – it was very useful. I have an assignment on adventure learning, I am positive that the knowledge of data collection would be very helpful in research this as I only have an idea of what it is but will have to do my research for the completion of the assignment. This unit would definitely make the assignment easier as I am quite confident on how to go about getting the right information in a much faster manner. I can see it being useful in my workplace as we collect memo’s and letters regularly, I know the advantages and disadvantages of the different types of data source and this is knowledge that will help me one day in the communication process of my firm. I have learnt that good data collection can help to identify and verify issues and many other things when it comes to proper research. I was actual dreading this week as I have stage fright - yes it doesn't matter if I am being seen or not, I hate crowds, I shake and shiver. This week we learnt about questionnaire design, I do believe as an aspiring entrepreneur this is an essential topic as a questionnaire is a method of data collection that would be of great benefit to me in the future, for e.g. we were asked this week to do a questionnaire for a pizza place to determine certain factors of the business. This is something that everyone who owns a business or work in a department of an organization that is responsible for this information must know how to do and do it at its best to get unbiased and truthful information. I missed the deadline for posting due to circumstances beyond my control but I did it anyway because I realized the importance of the practice and knowledge it entails. It is evident that this topic is applicable to my other courses as well, in organization behavior and human resource management, when it relates to the HR department, the skill of knowing when and what kind of question to asked is of great significance as with this department you are responsible for the well-being of employees and this includes questions and answers. Also, with this very subject, gathering information may mean that you have to ask questions to do your report and projects, the unit has provided me with how to communicate with respondents, about the questionnaire and types of errors .Therefore, I can conclude that this unit is an interesting one that will be definitely beneficially to me amongst my fellow peers in assisting us with our projects and reports. I learnt that it is very important to know about data collection and preparation, how the information is relays depends on how good it's communicated to whom it is intended. We were asked to use a visual chart to display information and why we made that choice. I realised that my visual chart (pie chart) was not so much of a good choice as a fellow colleague asked me - how I intend to explain a point of a student?
Honestly, I was tempted to say the student was pregnant and that's how I would explain a point of a student, but did not. I learnt that depending on the information it is wise to choose the chart that will represent it best. In my other course, when I am doing my final project, I would definitely say this was a valuable lesson learnt. I know now that I cannot have a point of a person, therefore, it is best when displaying information concerning individuals to use other graphs such as a bar graph. Already made my post for data dictionary and this was also enlightening, I feel good to know that I have learnt something new, something I can apply to work and other courses. Feeling intelligent is learning new things every day, an old proverb says "you are never too old to learn". The team worked well together and we got all the information needed to take our stance and stick to it; we had to agree to the following statement. "Quantitative data provides for a more sound analysis and interpretation of a research problem as well as less subjectivity in comparison to qualitative data". This debate was really a learning experience, it helped me to identify the best method to use for collecting data as well as displaying it. Our report was due right after the debate and the information gathered from it helped me in many ways, I understood how to do apply my findings and what is the best chart or graph to display the information. I really wish I was in depth with the research when I did my graded discussion on data representation, I wouldn't have jumped into any and any chart but instead, I would have understood the best method to display the required information.

The difference between qualitative and quantitative methods is; qualitative data represents information of substance / quality/ words/ opinions/ behaviours etc. whereas quantitative data represents the quantity or measurement of a research, data is simplified or broken down to numbers, for e.g scores on a test or weight of a participant. Knowing the difference between these two methods helped me a lot in my research report. It wasn't an easy task but through knowledge, guidance and strength, I have completed it. Hoping for the best.

In the first session, they spoke about analysing qualitative data and its importance in qualitative research.  Qualitative data analysis is “the non-numerical examination and interpretation of observations, for the purpose of discovering underlying meanings and patterns of relationships” (Babbie, 2014 p. 463). Using this type of data gives the researcher the opportunity to interpret, understand and explain the thing being studied. When analysing this type of data there are five things you must do: transcription, organising data, familiarisation, coding and finding themes. The second session talks about quantitative analysis, this is where the systematic analysis of numerical data is collected or the analysis of data that is converted to numerical form or analysed using statistics. The statistics can be descriptive or inferential. Descriptive statistics will yield information about the immediate group of data, inferential statistics can be invaluable in making generalisations about the population. Factors such as estimating statistics and hypothesis testing can be found in inferential statistics. 

This unit is like a refreshment session, it reminded me of my statistics course and honestly, I understand why they say " you don't learn to forget". During my reading, I was like oh i should know how to do this and it feels good to know i am going from knowledge to knowledge. I can honestly say that I am confident that i can conduct a research study and know my way around getting information. This unit is a wonderful addition to what I already know and it's also a wonderful feeling to learn new things every day. Applicable to my other courses and my job. 

This is the final chapter of this course and "whew" (double squared) lol, it has been a challenging time for me, my e-tutor was very helpful, but oh lord, I wish she had spoonfed me :) I cannot say how grateful I am for her assistance when I want to pull my hair out or even scream. I have learnt a lot and if I wasn't disciplined, this course would have been a crash course for me. It is almost the end and the lord knows I have learnt, looking for an A Miss Leu lol, I will start praying. Not sure if this is goodbye for you padlet because we have presentation week, not sure if I will have to tell you all about the excitement that will be. Challenging yet brilliant semester.

Reviewing my colleague presentations was an interesting task, learning about what their research was about was enlightening. I can truly say I learnt from them and I do believe I will also benefit from it. I asked my questions and I was very pleased with the responses, likewise, I answered my questions and I do hope I answered pleasing to them. Not only to them, but I hope my work fits the grade criteria so I can get a good grade. All in all, this course was a handful, mouthful, all kind of full lol, most challenging course I have done so far. Although it was a real challenge, I do appreciate the knowledge I have gained, I feel confident in myself to know that I can comfortably conduct a research knowing the necessary methods and techniques to be successful at retrieving data. 

I must say thank you to my course coordinator - Karima Mohammed and my e-tutor - Gladys Leu, you guys guided us well and helped us right to the very end. Miss leu, I must give you two thumbs up for being there for me whenever I needed help, you were a great source of encouragement and for this I owe you many thanks as there were times when I really felt like throwing in the towel.
