My role model is my grandmother because she had the kindest heart and always strived to help others. She influended me because she cared for me and taught me so much when I was younger. My groundmother always put others before herself and she inspires me to live life through compassion. She taught me to always love because love is always stronger than hate. She always knew how to show love and be there for everyone. Even in the toughest situations, she always acted with compassion. I aspire to live like my grandmother to always love and never hate.

My parents want me to choose what path I want to take in terms of career, rather than following in their footsteps. They believe everyone has a purpose in life and choosing a career should be up to me not them. I agree with my parents because no one should have their life set for them. A career depends on what interests you and this isn’t a decision for parents to make. Parents should not force children to follow in their footsteps, instead have them decide what career is meant for them.

The first quote made by Dr. Wernher von Braun thematically suggests that parents should teach their children to be well educated,
and have their main focus not be on earthly possessions because that can easily be taken away. It is important to be well educated because life will come much easier and one will able to make smart, beneficial decisions that others cannot. If one relies on having earthly possessions, they can easily have everything taken away from them. Education is something that cannot be taken away and is power that makes one of great power. Dr. Wernher von Braun is proposing parents should teach education rather than abstaining earthly possessions because education is a power that will always be beneficial in the end.

The second quote made by Miss Freida Joy Riley suggests that it takes courage to fully understand the true meaning of something. She uses this book as an example. The readers are given the opportunity to read this book but it is up to them to have courage and accept the meaning rather than denying it. It’s easy for one to just read a book, but it takes courage to own up and fully learn the true message. Miss Freida Joy Riley shows that only one with courage is able to understand the full meaning of an opportunity given to them.

A family should always support one another and help each other become successful. Sonny feels no matter what he will never be enough to impress his family or get the full support he deserves. Sonny recognizes the lack of support he has with his father and brother when he is interested in joining band and not football. He shows his disappointment in his family when he explains, “Dad remains silent at the table, but I noticed he and Jim exchange look of what I took to be the agreement of the shame of me being in band” (Hickman, Jr. 29). This incident shows the lack of support Jim and his father have for Sonny’s interest. They are not open to the idea of taking part of other activities other than football. They see Sonny’s interest as a joke and don’t support his interests. A family should always support one another even of they have different interest. All Sonny wants is to live his life knowing that his family is proud of him. Another example of Sonny’s family’s lack of support, is when Sonny’s dad wants him to stop and does not encourage him to keep trying with his rockets. Angrily Sonny’s father calls him over and screams, “I told you to stop this, didn’t I?...You could have killed somebody with that thing!” (93). Sonny’s dad is not only not supporting Sonny with his dream, but standing in the way of it. He tries to make Sonny feel bad and want to stop his passion. A father should be the last person holding back their kid from their dreams. Family members should never hold each other back from pursuing their dreams. Family should always be supportive of each other and never hold each other back instead be their support to carry on.
