Have your ideas about teaching young learners changed anyway? If so,how?

Yes.Some of my ideas about teaching the young learners has changed. For example, I know now, children focus on the meanings not the words. So they can make mistakes,it doesn't matter. They have a huge curiousity to learn new things. They are so creative. They can create new words while speaking the language. And instead of the long sentences, they pick up the chunks much more easier. They learn unconsciously mostly.

1. Yes,I agree.I think it is hard to do both at the same time.

2. Teachers can face a lot of challenges while trying to protect the balance. In general, students like enjoyable activities in language lessons. But sometimes, during these activities ,especially in crowded classes, there can be so much noise and a big mass.So Primary language teachers can easily lose the control and management of the class.
Because of their ages they don't know where to stop. And sometimes they may need help on how to behave.

Teachers should set up some rules negotiate with the learners. So they can be much more aware of obeying the rules.
They should give responsibilities to the students, maybe not to everyone. It builds self-esteem and confidence.

Also lessons should have some routines to make students predict what comes next.
So students can feel themselves much more comfortable .

1. Are there any tips and techniques from the sessions today that you could use to manage your PDCs positively?

2. Are there other elements of classroom management in your PDCs that you will have to think about (managing Feedback for example)

1. Of course there are.Today we played Stirrers and Settlers games.
Stirrers are activities which encourages learners to be active. They acquire movement. And includes jumping, acting, walking or running. When these activities are in play, noise, laughing, screaming and
shoutes of cheerings can be expected. They can be ball games, class games, mingles or surveys and TPR.
We played Chinese Whispers and some other stirrer games today and we had a lot of fun.

Settlers are the opposite of the
stirrers.They encourage learners
to sit down and be calm. They include word games, drawings, memory games and some silent activities.

We could use both stirrers and settlers in our PDCs effectively. But if we have large groups we should make a good plan for stirrers.
Using these tips and techniques help us to make our PDCs more efficent. And I'm sure the participants will have fun too.

2. Yes.We will think about the other element of classroom management, managing Feedback ,in our PDCs.
In fact,it is a kind of assessment or evaluation. It can be evaluative or informative. Also,it can be negative or positive. The point is that,we should know how to adjust evaluative feedback’s dosage. We should use it carefully.Altough positive feedback motivates the learners, overuse of it have no value.
And also, negative feedback or evaluation may demotivates the learners and it doesn’t give learners the chance how to improve.
So I think,we need to be objective enough in our PDCs.And we should use informative feedbacks mostly.

1. Has your view of assessment changed ? How ?
2. Are you still the same monkey.

It changed. It’s because I learned two new things,Aol and Afl.
I realized that using Assessment for learning is more suitable for young learners. It’s informal. It focuses on the gap, where a learner is and where they need help in their learning process. It improves and gives them an effective feedback.

But sometimes we also need to use Aof,the formal one.Because our education system, mostly rely on tests and quizzes. They are part of our education.
Although usage of it not seen appropriate according to many young learners expert,we can learn how to create more child-friendly,clear,beneficial,varied and meaningful tests.Their results alone don’t provide us an accurate picture of a student and we should combine them with class record progress. They should be a positive experience for the them.

2. I was the sleeping monkey on the tree, good news, now I feel like as the monkey waving its hand on the top.
I was feeling relax but I think I was wrong.
I always cared about assesment of
learning and used tests frequently. They were not child-friendly and they did measure only their memorizing or remembering skills.

I can say,I’m glad to change my opinions. And I will be more careful about the assessment of my pupils.

What do you think will be the greatest benefit of being in a Proffessional Development Community for the teachers English in your local context who join your PDC meetings ?

2.
