Individualism

Bartie values his individual rights as an American a bit more than most. Why else would they be included in the Constitution if not to be exercised? Especially today, in 2024, Bartie is very aware of all of his rights, including his individual right to bear arms. There is a lot of discourse on whether guns should continue to be as accessible as they are, but Bartie believes that this discourse shouldn't even be a thing, as the right to bear arms is clearly a right everyone should be allowed. Any time he feels his individual rights are compromised, Bartie is unafraid to speak his mind and speak up, such as when someone tells him that he can't say something. However, because of this strong sense of individualism, Bartie has a hard time remembering that there are limits to individual rights, especially when they can be harmful to others.

Bartie, like most Americans, firmly believes in the equality of opportunity. Despite some of his more controversial beliefs, he does believe that everybody, no matter who, should be able to get an even playing ground in order to succeed. Bartie especially instills this belief in the classroom, teaching other kids about this through his curriculum. He is also especially harsh on cheating because of this, and rewards those who keep the playing ground in his classroom an even one.

Like Bartie's individualism, he also believes in a limited government, as he is quite protective over his rights. He sees nothing wrong with fighting fiercely over what is rightfully his like the founding fathers before him. He definitely enjoys the limited government to the full extent when purchasing his hunting rifles, and also for his job, as he enjoys teaching about Kentucky's specific curriculum. He could never even imagine what they teach kids in California.

Bartie has has an extensive amount of family and peer influences when it comes down to politics. As a younger child, he was never interested in politics, but always had conservative ideals instilled into him by his parents. Growing up in such a small town in a mainly Conservative and Republican state, he was constantly surrounded by like-minded people, and found these ideals to be the norm around town. Peer influences also came into play, especially during his late adolescent and young adult years. Peers would talk about current events and their opinions on them, and everyone would have the same ideas. With these influences constantly infiltrating his life, and no differing opinions to be exposed to, Bartie never questioned being a Conservative Republican.

Similar to his family and peer influences, Bartie had a lot of influence coming from his education as well. School teachers, like he too did in the past, always found ways to instill their conservative ideals into students, even if it was in short passing jokes or statements. Everyone thought the same way where Bartie was from, so there was never questioning on the teachers' opinions. Living in the small town of Danville, Kentucky and never leaving, Bartie simply has not had exposure to other ways of thought, leading to the stubborn belief in his Conservative Republican ideals today.

Bartie is quite involved in many different types of organizations where his political beliefs are influenced. He is a part of the Kentucky Education Association, where there is a surplus of Conservative Republicans, just like Bartie is. Bartie is also a devout Christian and never misses a Sunday at Church, which continues to encourage his conservative beliefs and vote for those who are more like minded to him during elections. Likewise, his life spent in Kentucky has also helped him form a more Conservative Republican mindset like others who reside in Kentucky. All of these factors have had quite a major play in Bartie's political identity.

Bartie does not use things like social media, so he normally gets his media influences from TV or books and newspaper. Bartie watches FOX news on a daily basis, which is known to be pro-Trump and pro-Republican. This has definitely had some effect on Bartie and continues his way of thinking in terms of politics. He also likes to read the local newspaper, created by those who think similarly to Bartie, as they are also Conservative Republicans who live in Kentucky. Because all of the media he consumes is very right leaning, there is no question about why Bartie is the way he is.
