When Cross hynotizes Soneji it is revealed that he has an alternate personality.... Gary Murphy. Murphy has no idea what happened as to him they are just periods of time he doesnt remember. This shows that Soneji is not just a horrible person but also is human just like everyone else.

Black vs. White

In this book people who are black are degraded and treated horrible while white people are paraded and praised for the efforts of black people.Examples of this are Cross vs. Mayor Munroe. The only exceptions would be Soneji/Murphy and Jezzie Flanagan.

Deception vs. Reality

This is shown in the book when Soneji wears various colored wigs, contact lenses and puts on different personalities to hide/ blend in before the kidnapping.

Men vs. Women

Men vs. Women the enternal struggle. This is shown as Soneji vs. his female victims, Maggie Rose Dunne vs. Shrimpie Goldberg and Cross vs. Flanagan. Men are treated with respect while women are degraded evn if they have them same jobs. Example is Mike Devine and Jezzie Flanagan.

Love

During the novel there are many kinds of love such as malicious, true, puppy, family and love of money and popularity. Alex Cross and Jezzie Flanagan loved each other but she was only doing the dead to pump Cross for info about the case.Maggie Rose's love for her family kept her sane and calm even when she was given a new name in Colombia.

Mutilation

Victims were beaten, bruised, had varoius female parts cut off and hair was shaved. This shows a blatant disrespectfor women and human kind in general. These acts were done by Soneji to show that he hates mindless and stupid people plus from his family memebers beating and hurting him as a child.

Trust

Trust is the main theme throughout the book as when Cross trusted the man in Florida and ended up getting handcuffed to a plane seat. Or when Soneji/Murphy's family have trusted him all these years when he disapeared for extended amounts of time.

Wanting to be Remembered

Soneji/Murphy repetivly states that he wants to be remembered. This stems from a careless childhood which is now causing Soneji to kill, just so people will never forget him even if it is is a attrocious way. Or when he enacts all the crimes to be better than the past criminals who accomplished them.

Intelligence

Mostly all of the characters have intelligence in abundance such as Soneji and Cross. But it is the stupidity of Flanagan and Devine that causes them to be arrested, tried, and later killed for their crime.

Hero vs. Villian

THis represents Alex Cross and Gary Soneji/Murphy. Cross is trying to solve the case while Gary is making it worse.Although from Soneji's point of view Cross and the FBI are the true villains.
