Nora Helmer is a loving mother over everything else in her world. While dealing with the stress of her secret from Thorwald she does the best she can for her children. When Thorwald tells Nora that she is an inept as a mother and a wife she decided that it is best she leave. She leaves the children to someone better capable. She tells Thorwald " I won't go in to the children. I know they're in better hands than mine" (Ibsen 107). Knowing that she could have seen her children and she could have stayed, Nora must walk away from the ones she loves to be able to move past being seen as inept by a man who never really cared about her.

When speaking with Thorwald in the play Nora is either secretive or seems loving. She hid a major secret thinking that a miracle would finally happen between her and Thorwald, saving their marriage. "When the miracle that I expected to happen, didn't happen. It was then that I saw that you were not the man I had imagined" (106). Nora did at least think she loved Thorwald, and when he did not stand up for her, the person who payed his medical bills, she realized that he was not the man she thought he was.

Dr. Rank and Christina Linden are the two people Nora confides the most in. Christina is the first person that Nora tells her secret to, and Rank was supposed to be the second. Before telling him about the loan Dr. Rank confessed his love to Nora. Nora tells him that "There are people one loves, and there are others one likes to talk to" (65). After telling her this she says that she can no longer trust him with her secret. She explains also that she felt the same way for the servants back home. She loved talking to them because the servants were her friends and would listen. Just like this she can share with Dr. Rank and Christina because she is closest and most comfortable with them
