With and unconventionally shaped canvas, I had to adjust how I was going to consider the composition of the piece. Creating “Leg Deep” with a consistent amount of detail from bottom to top evened out the composition and flattened the design which I thought would be best for a pant leg given, when worn, the images will be slightly distorted. The views shift from the bottom of the pant leg to the top. First is underground view, ocean view, surface view, mountains, space and then there is a large candle coming out from behind the mountains to contrast the perspective. This is an abstraction of the world down to it’s core. The imagery was bold and used block shapes, filled in with minimal to no shading, they are carefully defined and I limited my color palate in order to make a coherent design that wouldn’t be too busy for my closet. Usually I use color heavily and have a larger variety but for this piece I only used 5 different paint colors including black and white.

I think the Initials were the strongest compositional elements. The large wire A is placed on top of a piece of collage that I traced over with red paint to make it look like a S. On the A I taped on more translucent images to fill in the letter but after I get the piece pack, I want to glue on white stripes of paper and paste scraps of green and red paper around the A. I might even cover the white on the image transfer tape with red and green sharpie. Right now the letters blend in with the background but I like how they trick the eye. 

Making transparency : Acrylic - water it down, Tissue paper - use light colors (also cool - lay tissue paper on canvas with glue then rip off before dry), Image tape transfer - use magazines because ink is cheap and will be completely transparent, Wire - maybe make shadow boxes of sorts
