"ping" is a test to find out  how long it takes for data to travel from your computer, go across the various Internet connections and nodes, reach the computer on the other side, and get back to you. This data is then calculated to determine how fast the connection is to the other computer and how quickly a particular data transfer can be completed.

- stands for Packet Internet Global, to check whether our destination is alive or not. 
- we pinged the uniten website (internal) and discovered that the uniten website uses 2 servers (172 & 103) and gives out 4 replies. also the TTL (time to leave) for uniten website is 67.  
5. tracert 
- max hops indicates max number of servers. 
- if internally, it is usually 3 hops 
- the more number of hops, indicates the nearer the server.
