When starting this course I assumed it would have been a statistical type of course. Moving onto the unit I learned what business research was in depth where it highlighted the range of issues that it could be conducted under. Whilst moving into the unit I also learned what the importance of business research was and the reason it is important, I also observed that exploratory, descriptive and and casual research was the different types of research. Continuously reading the unit I was able to understand the types of research methods , strategies and issues in research. At the end of the unit I was able to get a clear aspect of what the course has to offer.

Progressing in the course I moved onto unit 2 where it highlighted on the research process in which i learned about the nature of the research process and the six stage steps that are involved. I also got into problem definition which I learned about the process involved as well. Moving onto the Literature Review, it was the most difficult part of the unit I had issues trying to understand it. The inability to fully get the grasp of the review prevented me from participating in the weekly discussion which tore me apart because I hated leaving my work behind.

In this unit it was centered around completing a research proposal and focusing on the unit. The research proposal was a plan to outline or give an introduction of a topic of interest in a selected research issue. I also learned about the role of communication in Research, purpose of a research proposal and the components of one as well. Within the unit it also gave the steps I needed to complete my research process which would have had to be submitted in a few days time. It also went into depth with the research report in which I took a few tips down because it was essential to my final report . At the end it gave me an insight of what the research proposal was and how it is important to aid me into my final report.

This unit I was introduced to qualitative, quantitative and mixed method approaches which I know played an essential part in completing my final research report. I was also able to identify the major research methods associated with qualitative and quantitative research, although it took me quite a while to understand but doing external research gave me a clear picture. Session 4.2 was the most difficult part to understand in the unit which dealt with conceptualization and measurement, but I learned how researchers measure which was nominal that used numerical values, ordinal which involves the ranking of measurements, interval which is a range of values and ratio. With that I was able to learn the criteria of a good measurement. I also was able to learn about the sampling process in which the unit went into depth with, it taught me how to create and select a sampling design and how to sample and various ways in which it can be conducted. After reading this unit I was able to determine what type of sampling method I will be using towards my research project.

I look forward to move on to the next unit

In unit 5 it first introduced me to the sources of data which was primary data like letters, journals, surveys, etc. It also highlighted on the various advantages and disadvantages you can retrieve from collecting primary data for example is a disadvantage was the cost of collecting original data tends to be higher than the cost of collecting secondary data. I also learned about secondary data which I understood is data that was not originally collected by the current researcher and the various sources of secondary data. Progressing into the unit I understood how the value of data is determined. I also learned about the data collection process which I realize will play an important role in my research project. At the end of the unit I took little notes which will help push and motivate me with my final project.

This week was the hardest for me since I was not present for the presentation. I made efforts to meet my members half way but it did not seem to work out in my favor. This was the first time I lost touch of the course and missed two important things which were the presentation which I know will be an automatic 0 and the mid term quiz but I am a fighter and will use my disappointments I have gotten along this journey and put it aside to aim higher to pass this course.

This unit immediately taught me how to properly communicate with respondents. It is also showed me how to properly structure my questionnaire and the type of media it should be based on example Interviewer Administered and self administered modes. Through this I learned how important the design of a questionnaire is in terms of how it should be set, what should be said and how it is said or asked. Moving along I also learned the types of errors I may encounter in the the questionnaire and also from the respondents but thoroughly going through the unit I was able to learn how to minimize those errors, example avoid order bias and loaded questions. After reading the unit twice to properly get a grasp of it I was able to understand how I should structure my questionnaire for my final research paper, I also understood what type of mode to use and how to minimize errors to prevent any disruption to my data research.

Progressing into this course, I moved on to data presentation which taught me about the different forms of presenting data example pie chart, bar graphs and line graphs. It showed me a broad perspective of many ways I can present my data depending on the number of persons in my survey. This is the most essential part of my final project in which I will be using to highlight my representation of data. I look forward to the next unit.

After having difficult times trying to catch up with this course, I have come to point where I am now able to move with ease of mind and I am happy I have not given up. This unit taught me about the editing and coding, data dictionary and displaying data. This unit I struggled with just a little bit since at the time I was preparing all my contributions for the upcoming debate but at the end, I still have to revise and go over the unit because there is still a lack of understanding of it as yet. This week I am overwhelmed with assignments so the focus was cut short but I am ready for debate week.

The week finally came and my group members and myself worked extremely hard to provide and support each other come up with valid points to test our opponents knowledge of the topic presented to us. Or group disagreed and decided to stick with qualitative data. This week I learned so much on how qualitative data is better than quantitative in some type of manner. I Learnt that qualitative research is now being utilized in different fields or area of discipline. This is typically used by researchers in gathering data. This type of research includes the experiences of researchers through techniques like case studies, interviews, personal observations and focus groups. There are instances that qualitative research method is being criticized by some.
