–This year I’m most proud of the way I introduced common core curriculum into my SAI math and language arts classes. Having the opportunity to push into general education classes first semester gave me the opportunity not only to work side by side with a general education teacher but also the opportunity to observe their class and how they teach. I was then able to use that in my own classroom and modify it to a pace where my student’s were able to understand.

–I believe that my opportunity for improvement would be in assessing students for learning. Currently I assess my student learning by giving quizzes on math lessons and math notes and giving them comprehension quizzes as well. I would like to start a record for each student that they can keep throughout the semester so that we can both track their growth in math and language arts.

–I believe that my area of strength is in planning instruction and designing learning experiences for all students. This year in both math and language arts I have found different methods of teaching common core standards in a way that my students would understand.

■With this, my students each had their own sheet where they would write down the response question I would give them. Then there was a part where they could write and at the bottom they had a rubric to follow. Along with following the rubric, they needed to go back and underline in different colors where they completed that part of the rubric. This not only helped me check for understanding but it made them responsible in making sure everything from the rubric was included.
