I loved this novel. It's really powerful how one individual can change the lives of many. It was even more powerful in the ending when you find how easy one can lose this ability to live his or her life. I would rate this book a 5/5 and would suggest watching the movie as well.

The audience that would most likely want to read this would probably be those who love the idea of rebellion or are interested in mental health issues. The way the author describes the state the patients are subjected to is excellent and a huge eye opener. It really shows how bad mental health institutions were in the early 1900's even thought the novel is fiction.

The novel displays various signs of mental disorders such as schizophrenia, stutters, depression and PTSD due to the setting being in a mental ward. I am going to be focusing on the Narrator (my favorite character) of the novel who displays symptoms of PTSD. Chief displays the symptoms of feeling hopeless, scared, and detatched after an incident in a combine.

“Rules? PISS ON YOUR FUCKING RULES!” - McMurphy
This is my favorite quote from the novel as it defies everything Nurse Wretched symbolizes and how much of a rebel he is. It shows how powerful your voice can be.
