1. Develop an assertive style of communication:

Leaders with high emotional intelligence communicate with empathy by understanding the feelings of others. I would like to develop assertive communication without being too aggressive or too passive. Such communication opens the door for mutual respect and understanding between people with differing opinions, situations and strengthens team work to achieve organizational goals (Colfax, R. et.al. 2010)

2. Practice ways to maintain a positive attitude.

According to Goleman, D. (2013), leaders with high emotional intelligence have awareness of the moods of those around them and are able to guard their attitude accordingly as negative attitude easily infects. Developing positive attitude is a habit and I will have to practice it by having a optimistic outlook, engaging in prayers, meditation , reading positive quotes, talking positively about myself and others. It makes the personality more likable, attractive and inspires the people around with positivity. As said by Joyce Meyer that “Positive attitude gives you power over your circumstances instead of your circumstances having power over you”.
Outcome: Enhance employee engagement, build a collaborative performance culture, communicate with empathy, analyze complex environments, and make difficult decisions as a leader and contribute to business success

I would encourage upward feedback and feed-forward. According to Goldsmith, M. (2002), Feed-forward helps people foresee and focus on a positive future, not a failed past and comes from anyone who knows about the task. As a leader, I must be innovative with ways of appraising my team fairly, eliminating biases, rewarding the deserved ones to keep the morale high. This builds dynamic, open culture of trust, happiness, and performance.
Outcome:
Increased productivity, performance, work culture of equal opportunity, job satisfaction and trust in leadership.
