Dr. Newbold spoke about pushback she experienced when nursing informatics first started to come around. People were fearful because they didn't understand computers. People did not own computers or use ATM's yet. Nurses were in fear of losing their jobs. She continued to express the pros and importance of informatics for the future of healthcare and patient safety. She was called the "cheerleader" of technology. Today, informatics is an integral part of modern nursing.
