In "The Wife of Bath's Tale", they way Chaucer uses a shift of power to comment on a person's character in the tale, he goes back and forth between the women having the power and than the man having the power. Like for example the King gives his wife, the Queen, the power to choose how the knight should die. But than once she has some power she gives the knight a little power back as well. So throughout the tale, there's a constant change in power back and forth between the man and woman, showing that even woman can hold such great power as man can. That is how I see Chaucer shifting the power through the comments in the tale.

When the king gives the power to the queen and once the queen gets the power she decides he has a year an a day to decide what is the one thing women want and once that year an a day is over he comes back an gives the right answer but had gotten it from the old women.
