College Access Fairfax will help FCPS families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Virginia Alternative State Aid (VASA) forms for free.  See website to schedule a virtual appointment.

Virginians who have certain nonimmigrant visas, are undocumented, have Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status or are otherwise ineligible to file a FAFSA.

The VASA application only provides access to state financial aid and possibly institutional aid.

How Do I Access x2Vol?

x2Vol:  Students track their service learning hours through x2VOL, which can be accessed through Naviance by following these steps:

1. Go to the Naviance login page.

2. Log into your account.

3. Click on the Careers tab and select “x2VOL.”

4. If you have never signed into x2VOL, follow the prompts and complete your profile.

5. x2VOL Dashboard is where you will Add Hours, Find Opportunities, View Groups & Goals Progress.

6. Students need a minimum of 40 approved hours

   to earn the service cord and 50 approved hours to

   earn toward the civics and science seals. See

7. Hours begin on July 1 in the summer before

   freshman year and end in the spring of senior

   year.

The Medical Education Campus (MEC) is a state-of-the-art specialized campus focused on training and educating professionals in Nursing and Health Sciences. It is committed to fostering workforce development and offers robust continuing education programs. We are dedicated to equipping future healthcare professionals with the skills and knowledge needed for their respective fields.

This list includes bachelor degree granting institutions that do not require all or most recent U.S. high school graduates applying for fall 2026 to submit ACT/SAT results before admissions decisions are made. As the restrictions column indicates, some schools only exempt applicants who meet minimum grade or class rank criteria; others use ACT/SAT scores solely for course placement. Please check with individual schools for details.

The Mason Autonomy and Robotics Center (MARC) at George Mason University is excited to announce a new internship program called the MARC Robotics Academy. Sunrise Day Camp—Greater Washington is a proud member of the Sunrise Association (operated in collaboration with the Pozez JCC of Northern Virginia), whose mission is to bring back the joys of childhood to children with cancer and their siblings worldwide. Sunrise accomplishes this through the creation and oversight of welcoming, inclusive summer day camps, year-round programs, and in-hospital recreational activities, all offered free of charge to children ages 3½- 16 years old. We are hiring energetic and creative team members in a variety of roles:

• Counselors: work hands on with a group of campers each day, creating summer camp magic for 30 wonderful days!

• Specialists: help lead daily activities in the areas of sports, dance, music, drama, crochet, photography, science, and arts and crafts! This is also a great opportunity for teachers looking for a way to give back over the summer!

• Bus Counselors: help start the fun from the moment the kids get on any one of our 5+ bus routes. Staff in these roles will work at camp during the day and ride the bus each way with campers. Bus counselors will need to be 18 years old when camp starts!

GUTTS is seeking motivated high school volunteers to support our Career Readiness and Trades Pathway Program. Volunteers will help peers prepare for employment by assisting with resume creation, resume submission, and writing short student success stories.

The goal of the Health and Biomedical Sciences Summer Program is to provide a window into the scientific basis of human health.  Through lectures and hands-on laboratory investigations in state-of-the-art laboratories, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of disciplines such as molecular biology, neuroscience, physiology, pharmacology, immunology, and other medical sciences.  Students will learn how laboratory science can be translated into improved human health, and they will engage in investigative experiences that will allow them to apply their laboratory skills to real life problems.  In addition, students will interact with practicing professionals in fields such as medicine, physician assistant, physical therapy, health psychology, toxicology, and biomedical laboratory research. The Health and Biomedical Sciences camp will provide a fun, challenging and engaging college environment in which students will develop a deeper understanding of what it means to be a biomedical scientist and health professional.

As part of the fellowship, students will participate in a week-long summer residential academy in D.C. with fellow young leaders, expert-led workshops, and hands-on advocacy training. Students can apply if they are:

Youth are also matched with mentors and participate in speech and essay competitions that offer a total of $6,000 in scholarship prizes throughout the year.

Our Actuarial Science Summer Camps are week-long intensive programs for rising high school seniors designed to help them decide if they’re interested in actuarial careers. LVC has had a successful Actuarial Science Program for more than 50 years, and we’ve run this summer camp for more than three decades. Leveraging industry connections and alumni suggestions, we’ve forged an authentic experience that features interaction with actuaries and an introduction to relevant software and content.

Fine and Performing Arts camps will be held in July at Robinson Secondary School from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bus transportation will be available from select FCPS schools. Tuition assistance is available to FCPS families eligible for free or reduced meals.

Institute for the Arts (IFTA) is a two-week camp for students currently in grades 6-11. Students select from nearly 60 classes in art, dance, music, and theater. Rising freshmen have the option to take Health and PE 9 through IFTA as well!

Production Camp is a four-week summer theatre intensive for students in grades 6-11. Students in performance or technical theatre tracks rehearse, design, and build a musical in a collaborative atmosphere. The show is presented to the public at the end of camp.

Shakespeare Opera Theatre offers on stage, backstage, technical and front of house working internships (unpaid) for High School, College and University students living in the DMV for their summer 2026 Season, June 12th-July 19th. Productions are Molière/Mechem's Tartuffe and Floyd's Susannah. Candidates should email info@shakespeareoperatheatre.com with a letter of interest and resume. While unpaid, these internships will be hired under a professional contract and will confer valuable experience in a number of fields of study.

This two-week class is designed to expose students to a high-quality undergraduate architecture program. The core of this course is studio work. In studio, students are immersed in a rigorous creative process that starts with an idea, moves into the development of abstract models, and ultimately leads to the design of an exciting and innovative architectural building proposal. Critique and evaluation of studio work is ongoing, occurring in one-on-one discussions with the instructor and in larger group reviews with invited architectural critics. Studio work is complemented by a series of lectures and presentations, which explore the broader context of architectural practice, contemporary projects, and practitioners, as well as technical concerns such as drawing and model making. High school students entering 10th, 11th, and 12th grade in the fall, who are interested in future careers in architecture or design-related fields and curious about the world, are encouraged to apply! The first week of the course will focus on building models and drawings. The second week will focus on using the computer as a design tool. Students will learn 3D modeling in Rhinoceros, 2D drawing, and image editing in Adobe Creative Suite. This exciting, immersive workshop will open your eyes to architecture as a future career and provide you with an impressive portfolio piece, essential to be accepted into a premier program like Rensselaer!

The WOW fly-in program provides about 150 high-achieving seniors a fully funded opportunity to visit campus and experience the Williams community. WOW is a selective program open to rising seniors in the U.S. and Puerto Rico; preference is given to high-achieving students who couldn't otherwise afford to visit Williams.
WOW participants stay in dorms with current students, attend classes, meet with professors, and learn about our admission process and extraordinary All-Grant financial aid program. There are two ways to apply:

• Students may complete the full WOW application form, including a high school transcript (screenshots or pictures of the transcript are accepted) and an essay submitted for an English or social science class during the 2025-2026 academic school year.

Our alums have remarked that our courses have helped them by preparing them for more advanced courses in high school and college. This program is open to high school students (grades 9–12) who reside in Virginia’s 11th Congressional District, regardless of where they attend school. Public, private, and home-schooled students are all encouraged to apply. We would greatly appreciate your help in sharing this opportunity with students, parents, and your broader school community.

The Youth Leadership Council provides students with the opportunity to engage directly with the work of Congress while developing leadership and policy skills. Through structured discussions and collaborative activities, participants will examine issues affecting our district, debate real legislation, and develop policy recommendations to present to Congressman Walkinshaw. Students will also gain insight into leadership in government and their communities while building skills in public service and civic engagement.

The Youth Interior Design Forum (YIDF) is a workshop open to high school students of any grade level and gives them the opportunity to experience interior design firsthand. We also encourage graduating seniors who plan to attend Ball State University in fall of 2026 attend this workshop as well to have a smooth transition to college and have a jump start. The workshop blends tradition and innovation in creative learning, covering areas in applied critical thinking and exploration with materials. During the studio time, students explore the fundamentals of 2D and 3D concepts, learn basic drawing and illustration skills, play with color use and light effects, and learn how interior environments affect human behavior. As Fairfax County’s community pubic media station, during the summer season we offer teens interested in television studio production, post-production video editing, and radio production an outlet to learn, experience and create. This summer we are offering three separate camps with various dates to choose from.  The TV Studio Production camp offers a chance to learn the ins and outs of creating a television show, use of the equipment, and crew roles and responsibilities. Students and families are invited to participate in the summer event Edu-Family, taking place on Saturday, July 18th, at George Mason University. This free, one-day event is designed for attendees to participate in hands-on, engaging workshops that support college readiness, career development, and family learning.

For Middle School Students, Grades 6–8:
Students will participate in a Robotics Workshop where they will gain hands-on experience coding and operating robots in a fun and interactive setting.

Students will participate in ELP 1: Journey to College, where they will learn essential life skills such as public speaking, resume building, interview techniques, and college preparation.

High school students will also have the opportunity to participate in an essay competition for a chance to win one of three scholarships: $2,000, $1,500, or $500.

Parents/guardians will participate in financial and communication workshops focused on understanding the financial aspects of paying for college and learning about resources to support their children’s educational journey.

Invites students to our summer law-related education program. This summer we are pleased to offer three unique and interesting courses: Introduction to Law and the US Legal System, Introduction to Artificial Intelligence and Rising Legal Issues, and Introduction to Search and Seizure.

We want you to be aware that our Fall Applications for our online EDGE program are open NOW - July 6th. High school juniors, seniors, and graduates who qualify are encouraged to apply. Please see details below and share with students who may be interested in a career with The Apprentice School.

What is EDGE?

• EDGE courses are online, asynchronous classes that count toward our Associate of Applied Science degree

• EDGE coursework is completed on your own time, in addition to your normal high school coursework

• EDGE courses prepare you for the academic rigor of our school and increase your chances of acceptance!

Why Choose EDGE?

• EDGE courses are FREE!

• EDGE courses are entirely online, so they can be completed from anywhere!

• EDGE courses are done on your own time and are asynchronous. For most assignments, you will watch pre-recorded videos and complete tasks by the deadline provided. Some courses require occasional online meetings at designated times.

For those interested in / applying to The Apprentice School:

• EDGE courses count as an additional qualifying credit on your Apprentice School application. Acceptance to our school is highly competitive – successful completion of EDGE classes increases your chances of being accepted!

• EDGE courses can only help you – any unsatisfactory grade can be dropped and will not be held against you in the Admissions process, assuming you have upheld all academic integrity standards.

• If you are successful in an EDGE course, The Apprentice School application fee is waived! Be sure to notify Admissions of your EDGE status.

EDGE Requirement Highlights:

• At least a high school junior

• Have completed Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II courses with a C or better. A higher level math can be helpful in replacing one of these, if needed.

• Provide written consent from a parent or guardian, if under 18

• Have access to a reliable computer with a functional camera and dependable Wi-Fi

• Use a TI-30XIIs calculator on tests and quizzes, when applicable

Prepare yourself to succeed in any skilled-trade career.

This rigorous course from the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) covers all the basic skills you need to begin an apprenticeship and a career in the Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, or other Construction trades.  Core Construction Skills is a prerequsite to all other Level 1 NCCER trades curriculum and is required to gain NCCER craft qualification. Learning is condensed into three weeks of intensive training, combining both in-person and online classes.

You’ll earn 80 hours of apprenticeship-related instruction as well as an industry-recognized, registered credential. Plus, you’ll connect with employers who may sponsor your career!

The Emory Leadership, Enrichment, Advocacy, and Discovery (LEADs) Experience offers resources to support students as they begin the college application process and explore their leadership potential beyond the classroom. LEADs also includes an in-person Leadership Retreat on October 1st to 3rd for about 100 students.    

LEADs is designed to support the recruitment of talented, high-achieving high school seniors who are either first-generation college students and/or from a rural or lower socioeconomic background, and/or students who do not have the means to visit campus.

Five week-long courses will be held at the The Film Centre  — a professional production facility co-developed with Johns Hopkins University, equipped with a sound stage, recording studio, screening room, editing suites, and full equipment access. Students aren't observing. They're working in the same environment film professionals use.
The courses run July 13–17, 2026, and are open to students in grades 9–12. Your student selects one course for the week:

• Cinematography: Intro to Cinematic Storytelling

• Pitching & Producing Short-Form Media

• Introduction to Acting for the Camera

• Video Editing

• Extended Reality: Build Your Own Worlds (VR & AR)

MICA's broader summer program includes courses in portfolio development for college entry, digital photography, game design, painting techniques, and illustration — all taught by faculty who are also practicing artists and designers. The Children's Science Center Lab Internship is available to high school students ages 16+ who have a passion for STEM learning and attend one of the eligible high schools. Interns will develop and practice professional skills at the Children's Science Center Lab while engaging in various hands-on activities. 

CAMP is a six-day, five-night immersive experience at The University of Alabama for high school students. Students will practice skills and improve knowledge related to the fields of communication and media, develop connections with aspiring communicators, and become familiar with the college experience. Participants will work with cutting-edge technology alongside the nation’s leading experts in areas such as advertising, communication studies, creative media, news media and public relations, and even have the chance to work with The University of Alabama’s incredible athletic teams.

These interviews are intended to be casual and informative conversations that will last approximately 20-30 minutes and give you an opportunity to chat with a current W&M senior. Voices of Tufts: A Day on the Hill

Voices of Tufts: A Day on the Hill is a dynamic, one-day program on the Medford campus that brings the college search process to life for prospective students. Participants will receive practical insights into the college admissions and financial process, get to know the Tufts University campus, connect with current students, and discover how Tufts supports students throughout their transition to college. Participants will arrive on campus in the morning and depart in the late afternoon. Students within 150 miles of Tufts University's Medford campus will be prioritized.

Please note: this is a one-day program and overnight accommodations are not available. Reimbursement for travel expenses may be offered to participants in the program. Applicants should indicate their request for travel reimbursement when completing the Voices application.

Our free 6-week Online Neuroscience Research Program is designed for motivated current high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are interested in exploring the brain, behavior, cognition, and the nervous system through academic research. Students meet live online twice a week on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6-7 PM EST. Throughout the program, participants learn how to read scientific literature, develop a focused neuroscience research question, evaluate credible academic sources, and write a mini literature review-style research paper. By the end of the program, each student will complete a polished mini research paper and have the opportunity to publish their work in our internal student research journal.

Dive into the world of bioengineering and spend a week with experts in biomechanics, biomedicine, biomaterials developing lab techniques, research skills, and more.

Campers will learn first-hand from students and faculty of the Department of Bioengineering about campus life and the exciting discoveries and technological innovations in our labs impacting human health.

Our one week camp, being offered at three different times this summer, will include the following:

• An immersive team building activity with The Edge.

• A team competition showcasing biomaterials, biosensing, and microbiology and wet lab skills. Winning team members will be offered the opportunity to have a one-week internship in one of our research labs.

• Learn through hands-on activities with animal models, cell culture, 3D-printing, motion capture.

Tour the George Mason University MIX facility, the Nanofabrication facility, and experience the George Mason student experience by dining in on-campus facilities.

Discover Middlebury is our annual, all-expenses-paid fly-in program for students who may not otherwise have the chance to visit campus. 

Who Should Apply

Apply to Discover Middlebury if you’re a U.S. student who would not otherwise have the financial ability to visit campus, you’re intellectually motivated, and you’re interested in pursuing higher education at a liberal arts and sciences college.

Unfortunately, international students or those living outside of the U.S. are not eligible to attend Discover Middlebury.
