I had Mr. Frempong for six months in the 2019-2020 school year as a new student when I moved from Ghana. He went above and beyond to help me transition and feel like a part of the Kennedy community. I had never had a teacher who cared for each student like he was their father. Despite the pandemic and online schooling, he kept our community engaged: he'd send us packages, remind us to wear our LTI shirts, and organize meetings for us to be together in spirit. When I moved internationally again in 2021, my goodbye to Mr. Frempong was one of the hardest because he was my number one supporter. But this wasn't unique to me– he truly empowered the entire Kennedy community. From abroad, I'd still receive his weekly emails which became a weekly reminder that I will always be a part of the LTI community. Mr. Frempong used his superpowers to challenge, inspire and support our dreams. He did this for all his students.

I wish I could tell him once more that he's made an impact across the world. I wish I could tell him that the lessons he taught me will always stick with me. I wish I could tell him that he made me a better person and will continue to do so. He will always live in my heart and also in my actions. I hope he knew that with every person he came in contact with, he made their spirits brighter. He was the light in the community–and across the world. He made every place a better place. May he rest in power.

He was the kind of person we all want to discover when we join a group. With a light touch, he gave us his warmth, creativity, sensible judgement, and energy. He grasped ETA's mission and programs, improved them, and energized them. He connected our efforts to others and made them stronger, as I suspect he did in many other parts of his life. And he invented a way for our community to celebrate itself in our Light-A-Spark fund-raising drive, which he began and led. We are all grateful for his time with us.

Last year I had the pleasure of working across the hall from Kofi.  I will not be able to attend his funeral or wake, so I wanted to share some memories of how kind, joyful, and uplifting he was.  I would frequently see Kofi in the hallway in the morning; always sharply dressed he would greet people and smile. I remember on more than one occasion students telling him how much they loved him and his program.  He was always someone the students and staff could count on.  He was such a wonderful, integral part of our school.  We all feel the void left by him. 

His love for his wife and children was evident.  When I saw Kofi in the hallway after coming back from summer vacation this year, he was so excited about the road trip he had taken with his family.  He talked about how much he cherished the time he was able to spend with them.  His children were getting older, and it was a bit easier; he loved the civil rights museum and was happy to share the experience with them.  For his wife and children, please know that you were everything to him.  My deepest condolences to you.

He was THE teacher all students looked forward to having each day at Sligo Middle School.  Kofi could be found in the hallways to greet student and staff with his happy and calming presence.  Kofi saw you for who and what you were and was always kind and quick to make someone laugh or smile. 
 
Kofi was a kind soul that made Sligo Middle School a better place.  He later moved to Kennedy High School to take on more responsibilities and he impacted students lives wherever he was working.  Kofi had a way of making everything alright with no worries.  He always knew not to get upset or flustered when life had a change of events.  Heaven gained an angel and we will miss his kind, loving spirit.

Since I learned the very sad tragedy, my prayers and thoughts are with Kofi and the whole family.

I remember Kofi as a person humble, respectful, and friendly. Always with a peaceful and encouraging smile. Kofi is now an angel, and he will protect you all from where he is.

I hope the family will find peace and will continue living the life as it have to be for them, because I am sure it is was Kofi wanted.
