During the very early stages of life we learn to trust our environment. The biggest effect on learning to trust or mistrust is our mothers. " In these early months, babies need to develop a balance between trust, which lets them form intimate relationships, and mistrust, which enables them to protect themselves" (Pg. 130)

I used trust as a resolution for the following situation. As an infant I would cry because I needed to be changed "trusting" that my mother would hear and come to help soothe and take care of me.

During ages of 18 months and 3 years children learn to become more independent. Children in this stage are becoming better advocates for themselves. "In the United States , this growing sense of autonomy is sometimes called the "terrible twos"" (Pg. 135)

I used autonomy as a resolution for the following situation. My mom always picked out my clothes until I started picking out my own clothes even if they did not necessarily match.

The next stage ranges from 3 years to 5 years old. This stage allows for child to become more social and allows a child to distinguish between good and bad. "Children who learn how to regulate these opposing drives develop the virtue of purpose" (Pg. 174).

An example in my life relating to this stage is playing with others and learning to not be pushy or bossy. I chose to learn to use initiative to regulate my urges to be in charge.

During this stage child begins to gain healthy and unhealthy relationships with peers in and outside of school. A major factor in this role is social influences. "If this stage is successfully resolved, children develop a view themselves as being able to master skills and complete tasks" (Pg. 220).

In this stage I can admit I went down a wrong path and because of that I experience times of inferiority. I thought that bullying others was going to make me popular and for a while it did, but it was tiring pretending to be unkind to people because that is not my character. Although at the time I thought it was.

During the stage five, many of us experienced a time when we could not find our clique in society, we asked the question of why are we here. We also develop our "Jiminy Cricket" (our conscious). "Adolescents who resolve the indeity crisis satisfactorily develop the virtue of fidelity: sustained loyalty, faith, or a sense of belonging to loved one or to friends and companions" (Pg. 264).

I think we can all agree that there are plenty of times we all take the advice of our conscious. In a vivid experience I remember there was a time that I was asked to come to a party but I was grounded and I had the choice to say no or to go. I chose not too and I am glad I did because the party was cancelled.

This stage focuses on the building of intimate relationships with others. When success is not met at this stage one can enter adulthood and be lonely and depressed. "...romantic relationships begin to serve the full gamut of emotional needs that such relationships can serve and then only in relatively long-term relationships" (Pg. 278).

Relationships are an important part of ones life. I currently and dating a guy that I always dreamed I would be with. We met in high school and moved in together. Before my current relationship I have experienced many "toxic" and unhealthy relationships. These relationships have helped me to understand the type of people and relationship I do not want to be in.

In this stage one works add to society and care for others. A family is huge role in this stage. In these stages one can feel needed by those in the community and in the family. The posit can be said for those who take the alternate path those who feel more guided by being stagnate can be self centered and or feel there is no need for self improvement. "Today, the road to adulthood may be marked by multiple milestones-entering college, working, moving away from home, getting married, and having children-and the order and timing of these transitions vary" (Pg. 281).

Although I have not reached this stage in my life I am super excited to see what paths are available for me. In my future I see a big family, who goes to the kids sporting activities every weekend. I know that I want my kids and my family to be people the community can count one to produce civil member of society.

This is the last stage of Erikson's developmental theory. In this stage older generations focus more on sharing they're experience with those around them. Taking time to reflect on ones life is a huge part to this stage.
