Musical energy often defines the significance of a song, because people want music that they can gain energy from; it encapsulates power, a primal human instinct. In essence, musical energy ensures that humans can gain something from their listening. Musical energy makes music feel purposeful to the human ear, it creates unity among a group of people, and it provides a platform in which people can feel primal emotions in a cleansing and uplifting manner. To create musical energy is to release the innermost primal intentions. Our essay primarily focuses on what energy is and how it's expressed in nearly every musical piece ever created-- because musical energy is simply the tendency for a piece to offer the listener a sense of meaning. Therefore, artists can create energy through any means, and although it is easiest to create energy through musical elements that provoke the primal sense of action, such as through speed or volume, that cannot define how we create musical energy.
