Greeks love their mythology. According to Greek Mythology, Poseidon and Athena competed in becoming the patron of the city. Poseidon created horses as a gift to the people of Athens, as they were not "created" yet whilst Athena offered an olive tree. As Athena was the goddess of divine wisdom and Warcraft, they chose her to be their patroness, naming the city after her 'Athens'. The myth is symbolic but the two Gods symbolizing the strength of Athens as a city of wisdom and as a sea power. The first settlement of Athens 3000 BC was situated on the rock of Acropolis.
