Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

I want to share a reminder about adab towards our parents from my group. In the Qur’an, Allah clearly tells us in Surah Al-Isra’ verse 23: “And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him, and that you show kindness to your parents...” This shows that right after worshipping Allah, the next most important duty is respecting and being good to our parents.

So, how do we show adab to our parents?

First, we speak kindly to them. No harsh words, no raised voices. Second, we obey them in good things, as long as it’s not against Islam. Third, we serve them — especially when they grow old and need our help. Fourth, we make dua for them, “My Lord, have mercy on them as they raised me when I was small.”Fifth, we give financial support if they are in need. And even after they pass away, we continue to respect them by making dua, giving charity on their behalf, and keeping family ties.

In short, our parents are the reason we are here today. Their sacrifices are beyond what we can repay. So, let’s not wait until it’s too late. Let’s appreciate, respect, and pray for them while we still can.

Pillars in Islam

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

What I got from this usrah is about the Five Pillars of Islam. These pillars are the foundation of our faith and practice as Muslims.

The first pillar is Shahadah, our testimony of faith: “La ilaha illallah, Muhammadur Rasulullah.” By saying this, we declare that there is no god but Allah, and Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is His Messenger.

The second pillar is Salah, our daily prayers. We pray five times a day, and through prayer, we connect ourselves directly to Allah, reminding us to always stay on the right path.

The third pillar is Zakat, giving charity. We give a portion of our wealth, usually 2.5%, to those in need. Zakat teaches us to care for others and purifies both our wealth and our soul.

The fourth pillar is Sawm, fasting in Ramadan. From dawn until sunset, we abstain from food, drink, and desires. Fasting helps us build self-control, patience, and most importantly, taqwa — closeness to Allah.

And the fifth pillar is Hajj, the pilgrimage to Makkah. Every Muslim who is physically and financially able should perform Hajj at least once in their lifetime. It unites Muslims from all around the world, all dressed the same, worshipping Allah together.

In short, these five pillars shape our life as Muslims. They guide our faith, our worship, and our relationship with Allah and with others.

Reflection
From what I have learned, I realize that Islam guides every part of our life — from how we worship Allah, how we treat our parents, to how we care for others in society. Being a Muslim is not only about rituals, but about living with taqwa, discipline, and kindness. This course reminded me that at the end of the day, our goal is to please Allah and to live as His true servants.

Assalamualaikum,Today, I would like to speak about Adab as students. Adab refers to the manners, ethics, and discipline in seeking knowledge. It is an essential element in education because adab shapes a student’s character and determines how beneficial the knowledge will be.

One of the main benefits of practicing adab is that it brings barakah, or blessings, in knowledge. It also helps students build good character, earn respect, and improve academic success as well as relationships. However, students today face many challenges, such as laziness, distractions from social media and games, lack of respect for teachers and friends, and forgetting to apply Islamic values in learning.

Adab begins with adab with Allah. As students, we should have sincere intentions and make duʿa before studying, seeking knowledge for the sake of Allah. Next is adab with teachers, which includes respecting them, listening attentively, and not interrupting when they are teaching. This respect allows knowledge to be delivered effectively.

We must also practice adab with friends by helping one another and sharing knowledge. Learning becomes more meaningful when we support each other. Lastly, adab with knowledge itself means being disciplined, avoiding laziness, and applying what we learn in our daily lives.

As Imam Malik said, “Knowledge without adab is like fire without light.”

In conclusion, adab is the key to gaining true benefit from knowledge. By practicing good manners with Allah, teachers, friends, and knowledge itself, students can achieve success while building character that is blessed and respected.

Reflection usrah 2: Adab as a Student

Through learning about Adab as a Student, I have realised that seeking knowledge is not only about achieving good results, but also about building good character. Adab plays an important role in shaping the way I learn, behave, and interact with others.

I reflect on my intention as a student and understand that knowledge should be sought sincerely for the sake of Allah. By having the right intention and making duʿa before studying, learning becomes more meaningful and brings barakah. This reminds me to always correct my intention and not study only for grades or recognition.

I also realise the importance of respecting teachers. Sometimes, students may take teachers’ efforts for granted. Through this topic, I have learned that showing respect, listening attentively, and following advice are part of adab that lead to successful learning.

In addition, adab with friends teaches me to be supportive and helpful rather than competitive. Sharing knowledge and helping each other creates a positive learning environment and strengthens relationships.

Lastly, I reflect on my discipline in learning. Distractions such as social media and laziness can reduce the quality of my studies. This reflection encourages me to manage my time better and apply what I learn in my daily life.

Overall, this reflection has helped me understand that adab is essential in gaining true knowledge. By practising good adab consistently, I hope to become not only a successful student, but also a person with good manners and strong values.
