Have you had opportunities to try any of these activities out in your own teaching?

I have provided opportunity for children to role-play the characters they want to create for their story before writing. This enables children to develop a good understanding of the character's personality. From this, I have then taught them about how they would describe their character drawing upon features such as expanded noun phrase, simile, metaphor.

What went well?

Really informative session with good working examples of writing features. This has given me a greater understanding of different terminology e.g. Adverbs (of time, of manner, of place etc).

Were there enough opportunities to share ideas, thoughts and experiences?

Yes, extremely interactive session.

ILO1 (am) Explore the complexities of the writing process

The session was very informative. It was broken down into neat steps which explained processes of writing perfectly. It has enabled me to think further about all of the information pupils need to practice and develop before they can begin the writing process.

ILO2 (am) Experience contextually grounded grammar writing activities to build subject knowledge
I found this really good, especially the ideas of different activities and ways in which to make this fun and engaging for pupils

SPAG session (pm).

Really helpful session, especially clarity around how best to teach these and ideas on what writing processes enable me to teach these effectively and in context.

I have recently taught sessions on informative writing and purpose of the audience, helped greatly by my subject knowledge which grew greatly in these sessions.
Lectures were well paced, enough time given to discuss and share ideas with colleagues which I find most beneficial personally.

Have you had opportunities to try any of these activities out in your own teaching?
We follow The Write Stuff scheme for some of our writing units and your sessions helped me understand how to deliver the scheme. It's a way of teaching the writing process that I hadn't fully understood until I could contextualise it, using what I learnt from you.
Thinking about my lecture:
What went well?
I absolutely love your sessions. You are such an engaging speaker and your knowledge and expertise always comes across. I never feel like you are just reading a power point which happens in so many lectures.
What could have been different / better?
I struggle with having such a big group altogether so it would be a huge luxury to do it with smaller numbers. It's always the same people speaking and I think smaller numbers would give other people the opportunity to ask questions or to speak up with less intimidating numbers.
Were there enough opportunities to share ideas, thoughts and experiences?
See above.
Most importantly- DID YOU LEARN ANYTHING?! Definitely. I've been studying SPAG since starting the teacher training process and your sessions helped reassure me that I had understood correctly. It also filled in any gaps I had and answered any of my queries.
