This shows how Mama is very religious and makes sure everyone else in her house feels the same way about God. Mama also proceeds to slap Beneatha when the author says, "Slaps her powerfully across the face." I picked this poem because I think it relates a lot to Mama. I think it relates to her husband that passed away as well. I think it does because Mama and her husband have worked their whole lives just for their children to be happy. Mama said on page 129, "I seen him night after night, come in and look at that rug and then look at me. The red showing in his eyes, the veins moving in his head. I seen him grow thin and old before he was forty, working and working like somebody's old horse, killing himself, and you give it all away in a day?" This shows how hard they have worked.
