Jack's is more obvious. When the group decides they need a leader, Jack automatically assumes he would be it. This comes from him being a leader in his boy's choir. That general assumption is one thing, but he then takes offense to when the boys around him want to vote rather than immediately elect him as leader. Ralph shows his arrogance in the very first pages. He has no desire to befriend Piggy. He judges him immediately as invaluable when he sees the "fat" kid. The control Jack wants to have and the control the island has over all of the boy. Something comes out of the bush and is dubbed the beast. It is speaking their language, but the tribe kills it anyway. Their bloodied frenzy finishes when something falls from the mountain and scares the boy off. The thing the readers know as the dead body, push the beast off the strip of land onto the beach. They sit in an assembly and Jack refers to the beast. Someone ask if they killed the beast. Everyone goes silent knowing what they killed was not the beast. Unlike Ralph. Jack doesn't seem to care about killing SImon. He justs wants to make sure his tribe is okay.
