Auditory Development:

Luminjalo has a strong auditory memory and listens carefully in all situations. He follows spoken instructions and interprets environmental sounds with ease. His communication with peers and me is clear and expressive, using six-word sentences or longer. Lumi takes great joy in singing songs and action rhymes, demonstrating excellent rhythm and recall. Luminjalo likes painting and is beginning to show more care and focus in his artwork. He is very interested in exploring different textures and often comments on how things feel. Luminjalo is gaining confidence and is starting to approach new tasks with a positive attitude. He is developing his self-awareness and is beginning to understand how to express his feelings appropriately. It has been lovely to see Luminjalo’s growing awareness of his body and its movements. He can now name most body parts confidently and often points to them during songs or games. He is becoming more consistent in crossing the midline, particularly during drawing and writing tasks. Luminjalo shows awareness of objects and peers while moving through space. He understands simple directional and time-related words, linking them to routines such as morning circle and home time. He completes mazes with increasing confidence, planning his path logically. Action songs are performed with energy and focus. Wow, Lumi, you have done so well, my darling.

Gross Motor Development

Fine Motor Skills

Threading and pegboard activities are completed carefully and with enthusiasm. Luminjalo is beginning to develop his literacy skills. He has learned to recognise his first name and surname and is practising writing them with support. His phonics skills are emerging, and he is starting to identify and write letters corresponding to the sounds he hears. He enjoys pre-writing activities such as tracing shapes, letters, and lines, and is developing control when writing from left to right. He has, however, started to write letters and sounds independently, and his enthusiasm for literacy is growing steadily. You can do it, Lumi!

Luminjalo is a confident and enthusiastic communicator. He enjoys learning the days and months in Afrikaans and isiZulu and uses repetition effectively to remember them. He has a well-developed vocabulary and responds correctly when using sign language. He listens attentively, follows two-step directions, and responds thoughtfully during story time. He can identify certain lowercase letters, as well as most colours and shapes, with ease. His expressive and receptive language skills continue to strengthen, showing great maturity for his age. Lumi has made progress in numeracy this year. He is beginning to recognise numbers, write them accurately, and recall previously learned numbers with support. He is developing confidence in counting forwards, backwards, and from a given number. He enjoys counting concrete objects and using an abacus to practise number concepts. He is learning to recognise 2D and 3D shapes and count sides. Continued encouragement and practice will support further progress. I am very proud of his development this year. Keep it up, my Lumi!
