Code of Practice -
A code of practice should promote the consistency of approaches which are put in place to meet children's special educational needs, it should also place the rights of the children's needs to place a focus of the process.
NQS -
The national quality standard is a high benchmark for early childhood education and care. The NQS includes 7 quality areas that place important outcomes for children. Childcare services are assessed and rated by their regulatory authority and given ratings for each of the 7 quality areas. These areas cater for children's education, health and safety, physical environments, staffing and relationships with the children and the partnerships with families and communities.
NQF -
The national quality framework provides a national approach to regulation, assessment and quality improvements in childhood education. The NQF includes national law and regulations, the national quality standard, assessment and quality ratings and the national learning frameworks. The NQF introduced new quality standards in 2012 to improve education and care in long day care, family day care, preschool and kindergarten. These benefits show quality education and care early in life, leads to better health, education and employment outcomes in later life.
EYLF-
The early years learning framework is a early childhood curriculum framework which guides educators in developing quality educational program's, providing opportunities in further developing children's foundation of learning and for them to become successful learners. The framework consists of principles, practices and 5 main learning outcomes based on identity, community, wellbeing, learning and communicating.
ACECQA -
The Australian Children's Education and Care Quality Authority supports the NQF to ensure consistent implementations. ACEQA's roles is to inform and educate communities about the importance of improving outcomes in children's education.

Milestones
Developmental milestones act as checkpoints in each individual child's development. In early education we use them to determine what is the average or typical age a child is able to achieve a skill. The main categories of developmental milestones are physical, social, cognitive (including language) and emotional. By understanding different developmental milestones we are able to understand how children typically develop and be aware of any potential developmental concerns.
History
History refers to the study of past events particularly in relation to human affairs. It can also be described as a typical chronological and continuous record of important public events. Major historical events that have influenced the development of our thinking and approach within the field of Early Education are
* The Signing of the United Nations Rights of the Child 1959
*The Salamanca Declaration 1994
*The United Nations Rights of Persons with Disabilities 2006
Strength Based
A strength based approach aims to focus education on identifying what works for the child instead of what is wrong with the child and their abilities. It means that instead of requiring the child to fit the curriculum the curriculum is built to fit or respond to the needs of the child. Embedded in this approach is the belief that every child is a competent individual who possess unique strengths and talents. Another belief is that children demonstrate their learning in different ways.
Educational settings
An educational setting is any setting one would go to or attend in order to have an educational experience. It can also be referred to as a learning space or learning setting. Ideally these environments are highly diverse in use and support a variety of learning styles and differing needs of the individuals within the space. Several types of educational settings are
Early Education Centres
Preschool
Primary School
Highschool
Outside School Hours Care
Playgroups
Family Day Care
Early Intervention Settings.
The idea of educational setting could flow onto after school activities and sports, singing class and Scouts to name a few.
Legislation
A legislation is a law or set of laws suggested by government and made official by parliament. Legislations like the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 help guide and bring about fair and just rights for all members of our communities. Legislation is one of the most important mechanisms a government has and can use to organise and protect its citizens. They determine the rights and responsibilities of individuals and the obligations of all members of society.

Discrimination: Discrimination happens when a person, or a group of people, is treated less favourably than another person or group because of their background or certain personal characteristics. This is known as ‘direct discrimination’. It is also discrimination when an unreasonable rule or policy applies to everyone but has the effect of disadvantaging some people because of a personal characteristic they share. This is known as ‘indirect discrimination’. Discrimination can be against the law if it is based on a person’s age, disability, or race, including colour, national or ethnic origin or immigrant status, sex, pregnancy, marital or relationship status, family responsibilities or breastfeeding, sexual orientation, gender identity or intersex status.

IEP/ ILP: an ILP is an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) which will document your child’s intended curriculum and their learning expectations for a reporting period whereas an IEP is an Individual Education Plan. The difference between an ILP and an IEP? The purpose of the ILP is to document the CURRICULUM the student is being provided as opposed to the IEP where the purpose was about the student’s disability and their ACCESS to the curriculum. The ILP allows for greater scope and ability to document ALL learning areas and skills your child is currently developing. The ILP will still identify three priority learning expectations.

Code of practice: These do not replace the laws, but codes of practice can be issued to help make understanding best practice easier to those in the EC industry e.g. Early Childhood Australia’s Code of Ethics 2016.

NQS: The National Quality Standard (NQS) sets a high national benchmark for early childhood education and care and outside school hours care services in Australia.

There are 15 separate Standards, containing 40 Elements.
