G1: Macbeth Theme Songs by Alicia Brungardt

Find a "theme song" for one character from Macbeth. Embed the song on the Padlet. (YouTube works great for this.) Then explain how the song fits the character. Quote some of the lyrics to prove your point. Do NOT duplicate other people's response. Be original. Write in complete sentences.

"She's so Mean" by Matchbox 20 would be a great theme song for Lady Macbeth because she's an "uptown, get-around girl" who uses her husband's accomplishments to get what she wants. Matchbox 20 sings "She's like a one-way ticket cause you can't come back

...and you want her
But she's so mean!" Lady Macbeth, like the subject of the song, is pure concentrated evil, and she manipulates her man to get what she wants.

Macbeth
Demons by Imagine Dragons display Macbeth and how he acts like a normal citizen but is living with the thoughts of killing the king. The Lyrics "No matter what we breed, we are made from greed" accurately represents the greed of wanting to be king and how it will not change unless he kills Duncan and becomes king. The lyrics "When the lights fade out and all the sinners crawl," it could represent when Macbeth's sins came "Crawling out" on the night that Macbeth killed Duncan. Right after that are the lyrics "Don't want to let you down, but I am hell bound, though this is all for you, " these lyrics could be describing Lady Macbeth and how he doesn't want to let her down and not kill Duncan.

Macbeth: Hold Me Down by Halsey. The song starts out with "My demons are begging me to open up my mouth. I need them, mechanically make the words come out." And in this instance, the demons could represent the bad influences in Macbeth's life, trying to make him do things he might not be 100% okay with. "But it's the devil that's tryna' hold me down, hold me down, sneaking out the back door make no sound...." This bit just reminds me of the murder. "Sayin' that I want more, this is what I live for. Selfish, taking what I want and calling mine. I'm helpless, clinging to a little bit of spine. They rush me, telling me I'm running out of time." This practically describes Macbeth's feelings at the time of murder. His ambition (and his wife) pushed him to horrible acts, but he doesn't really have much of a backbone. Honestly, I could probably tie almost every aspect of this song to Macbeth.

Crazy by Cee lo Green fits the character of MacBeth.
The lyrics "I remember, I remember when I lost my mind" can be interpreted when MacBeth was determined to kill King Duncan. "I was out of touch. But it wasn't because I didn't know enough. I just knew too much" because the witches told MacBeth he would become king, he couldn't take his mind off of that goal. "Now I hope that you are having the time of your life. But think twice, yeah, that's my only advice" I interpret these lyrics as even though becoming king would be the greatest thing ever for MacBeth, the process leading to the throne would lead to serious consequences.

Heathens by Twenty One Pilots
The beginning of the lyrics "All my friends are heathens take it slow" can be brought in by Donalbain and Malcolm concluding that even their closest friends can be enemies to them. Then toward the middle of the song, it says that "you'll never know the psychopath sitting next to you" this also refers to the brothers in that they never know who will turn on them and at what point they will do it. "They say they can smell your intentions" refers to when the brothers decide to flee from their home, they could smell the intentions of whoever killed their father would for sure kill them at some point.

Lose yourself- Eminem- this song represents Macbeth and how he starts to lose his mind and begins to act funny once he kills Duncan! "He opens his mouth, but the words won't come out
He's chokin', how, everybody's jokin' now
The clocks run out, times up, over, blaow!" this line describes how Macbeth interacts with other people once he is king and had killed Duncan. "The souls escaping, through this hole that its gaping
This world is mine for the taking
Make me king, as we move toward a, new world order" this relates to Macbeth and his wife's wild desires to become king and queen!

Yeah Now, what's your name girl?" This talks about how Macbeth is treated by Lady Macbeth since she really pushes him around and tells him what to do and Macbeth still loves her. And the lines "just lose it" are what is happening to him after talking to the three weird sisters.

Relates to MacBeth because he is struggling with deeds he has done. Trying to cope with the fact he killed Duncan friend and king of both MacBeth and Lady MacBeth. I think the part of the song "Once had hope to live." Or "once had love to give." Goes with it because he is going through this dilemma on hating the fact he killed Duncan and also trying to keep up with his sanity. He was to much of a good sane person to kill someone who he knew.

Tong resembles Lady Macbeth because she's trying to get her husband to kill King Duncan and to do so, she needs to corrupt his mind. "Got me so blind I can't see that she's a black magic woman, she's tryin' to make a devil out of me" is a good example of this.
