There was a war back in 1862 where Lee's soldiers fought another force made by McClellan which had a large amount of death tolls. United States didn't want to get involved in fights and wars as they instead tried to make compromises to not divide the nation anymore from South to North. North and South of America is trying to be maintained level when it comes to slave states and free states.
