Unfortunately, Emmett is so well known because of his tragic death. On August 28, 1955 Emmett was brutally murdered. The false story is that he had supposedly grabbed a white woman and tried to force himself onto her, so later the woman's husband and brother killed him. However, he didn't do any of that, and there were witnesses.

Just as segregation in schools was banned, these 9 students were the first of color that were planning to attend Little Rock High School. However, the night before their first day there was an order put out to prevent them from entering the school. Supposedly, this was to protect them and keep them safe. At school these nine teens were constantly harassed and antagonized.

Her legacy today is extremely admirable as she has inspired so many people of color around the world. She is so well known from her story, which took place on a community bus. Rosa refused to give up her seat for a white man, and this act of courage and bravery has touched the hearts of millions.  But because of her, segregation was ruled unconstitutional!

James is well known for being a civil rights activist , and for being the founder of "The March Against Fear." But unfortunately, during this march James was shot by a sniper. The shot hospitalized him, but amazingly enough the march was still completed. More activist completed his march, and he has always been remembered for being brave and honorable.

George was accomplished in his career. He was a politician, and a governor. However, he was extremely in favor of segregation. Because of this and his views. he was shot and permanently paralyzed from the waist down by a man named Arthur Bremer. Shortly after, his popularity decreased and he begged for forgiveness from those he hurt. Rightfully so, it didn't work out for him so well. George later died on September 13, 1998.
