Three basic differential rules

QUESTION ①：
H(x) is defined as 2f(x)-3g(x)+5, how can you derivative the H(x)? And if f'(3)=1, g'(3)=5, what is the value of H'(3)?

How to find the equation of the tangent line to a point on the graph of f(x)?
1. Find derivative function f’(x)
2. Find the slope of the tangent line using: m=f’(x₀)
3. Use the slope-point formula to get the equation of the tangent line: y-f(x₀)=m(x-x₀)
The geometric meaning of the first-order derivative is the slope of the tangent line.

EXAMPLE: Find the equation of the tangent line to the curve
at the point (1,3)

Normal Line
The normal line is the line that perpendicular to the tangent line at the point of tangency

If m_T is the slope of the tangent line, then the slope of the normal line m_N

Piece-wise defined functions

A discontinuous function must be non-differentiable, and a continuous function must have the equal slope of the tangent line for the left branch and the right branch to be differentiable
