Jessica, emotion, music, and pacing are certainly essential elements in a digital story. Below is an example of how Matt MacArthur used those elements to tell his story about his Grandmother's life. His voice is very calm and he has a slow reading pace, he chose very simple piano music, and it really brought out a gentle and reflective emotion in this video.

Rimsha, yes video is more accessible in that we have many platforms that host video. However, that seems to me to be more about availability than accessibility. While you work on your video script for your project, think about how you can use your script to not only give your video more focus, but to use it as a tool in your video design. Attached is a video explanation.

Its very important to know what group we will be presenting too and how to best catch their attention. I think about when I read a book to my 5 year old and emphasize the different sounds and emotion when I read to him. I chose this video of Surface Studio teaching viewers how to use Adobe Premiere Pro, and after going through a lot of videos, his captured me as he added comedy to his instructional video which capture me. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMeHRRWNGgA

I really connect with your point about the music aspect. Sometimes, the focus can be too much on other elements and when the music is off (too soft, too distracting, etc.) it takes away from the message. Music in a video should add meaning, like you said. Music is also a tool to use in adding emotion as well. I found this video on YouTube and thought this was a great example of how music can affect emotions.

Hey Mikala! I found the 7 elements video to be a good resource as well. One of the points you mentioned was the Dramatic Question. I do think it is important to keep the viewer guessing and engaged through this element in order to encourage involvement. The video below focuses on writing a dramatic question in terms of play righting, however, the tips given can certainly be applied to educational videos.

Hannah,

I found a great video I'd like to share that inspires your thought that asking questions in the beginning of a story is a great idea and a good way to get the audience engaged. The attached video is quite long and I'm mainly posting for the first (roughly) 30 seconds because that is all I needed to show how right you are that questions are a great tool!
-Irene Timashpolskiy

Hi Syeda! I think point of view and emotion are very important when telling a story. The youtube video below provides an excellent example of both point of view and emotion. I think that sometimes it is hard to see someone's view point however, when you are able to it can make a huge difference, like how it did for the man.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HX5aRzXUzJo

It is a testament that some educators believe the digital storytelling can be better than psychoanalytic therapy for children in some cases.

One of the things I said was really important in digital story telling is pacing and your video was the perfect example! I was able to read each part and finish before moving on to the next. It was clear and not rushed at all! Great job! I'm attaching a video that goes a little more into details about pacing and why it's important. -Mikala Martin

Jessica,
I think you did an excellent job pointing out some important parts of digital storytelling. I definitely agree that music in the background can play a huge role in the overall story. Like you said, the music HAS to match the content. As i was searching through youtube watching videos about this topic I found the video I attached below and thought it was a perfect example of what NOT to do. The information in the video is great but the music sets the entire thing off and really changes the overall quality. -Mikala Martin
