Students need to have clear aims and objectives which they can understand and what they are expected to be able to achieve. 
I would need to take the factors of Metacognitive Knowledge and Metacognitive Regulation into consideration when planning my lesson. 
Have I built on prior knowledge to allow the students to make the necessary connections? Have I explained, scaffolded or used different methods in which my students can learn the lesson? Have I differentiated the material for suitable ability levels? Have I given the students an opportunity in the lesson to evaluate their new skills and understanding in a practical way?
