*Main Character Traits

In this book you won't know the name of the main character because it is an autobiography that is written anonymously, all you know is it is a man. He has psychopathic tendencies and is overly controlling of everything that goes on in his life. He finds joy in mentally abusing women, although he claims he would never physically hurt the girls. He claims the only woman he has ever felt remorse for hurting was his girlfriend of four and a half years who he said he loved, Penelope Arlington. The author is a self-proclaimed alcoholic who thinks he is more intelligent than the girls whose hearts he breaks. He finds girls he thinks will attach themselves easily to him, then toys with their emotions and breaks it off. He loves the anger and pain in their eyes when the girls hear what he has to say. I believe the author wrote this book to prove that not everyone can be trusted. No matter how average a person looks there can always be something most people consider abnormal bubbling beneath the surface. The author proves this by repeatedly breaking the hearts of women. To sum this up, the author is a slightly psychopathic man suffering from alcoholism and he enjoys emotionally hurting women.

The blade slips in barely noticed, the pain and the apology delivered at the same time" (page 8).
"My logic went as follows: If someone hurts you then you automatically want revenge. It doesn’t matter how long it takes, you want revenge. I thought, if I hurt her enough she would want revenge. Therefore, I wouldn’t have to worry about never seeing her again. Because that is what I feared most. The fact that I was losing her" (page 15).
"They say you’re not punished for your sins, you’re punished by them" (page 46).

I believe the anonymous author of this book is a static character. He has control issues and that does not change throughout the book. These control issues are basically conveyed as who he is as a a person in this book. The author becomes slightly less angry and has the ability to control his temper better. Although he had enough will power to make minor attitude adjustments his overall character comes out the same person he was at the start of the book.
