I've actually been trying to run a business for the last 7 years and finally gave up so back to school. Before that I generally lived in San Francisco or Sonoma County where I ran home improvement businesses. I usually go down to Chico area during the winter months and that's my favorite time. I get to see my grandkids. I live too far out for them to come up here and stay. With these online courses I'll still be able to go down there. After I succeed in this I plan on going down a little bit more south then Siskiyou County to UC Davis to get my masters in zoology and get my medical veterinarian degree.
This summer has had its ups and downs like everything does. Though I did have my good and fun times, mostly hanging out with my sister. I believe my most special moment this summer was when I turned 17 and had all my friends there supporting me. I had so much support for my 17th birthday from my family and friends. Whilst my most memorable moment of this last summer was when my sister and myself rescued a 10 week old puppy. We had got him in our care and gave him all of his pro-biotics, anti-biotics, vaccines, and dewormings that he could have at such a young age while we also have started a gofund me to help pay for his medical bills as he has three broken ribs that need to be re-broke and rest. I’ve lived in Siskiyou County for nearly ten years now, but before that I actually grew up in New York City (definitely the polar opposite of Siskiyou County). I love getting to go on outdoor adventures of all kinds and am an avid writer and gamer in my downtime when I need to slow down and recharge.

One of my favorite moments from the summer was a quiet evening spent watching passing shooting stars on a cloudless and moonless night right from my backyard. Seeing shooting stars always fills me with tons of hope and thoughts of possibility; if a seemingly random clump of space rock can travel billions of miles to spend a single second dazzling my eyes before disappearing from view, then maybe my own efforts toward my goals can likewise be cast out into the universe and be received where they are needed most. Included is a photo of one of my favorite spots here in Siskiyou County – Castle Lake, still partly frozen in the middle of June! While others were doing full on polar plunges, I only managed some very brief wading in the 38-degree water.

I so very much look forward to getting to know and work with all of you this semester!

My name is Katy Weatherton, and my place of origin is Winter Park, Fl., but my true hometown is Vilonia, Ar. I fell in love at 16 and married was married by 17 years old. It is rare now a days, but I am still married to the man I fell in love with 18 years ago. After about 3 months into marriage, I dropped out of high school, earned my GED 8 months before my graduating class, and started working. I have been in the "work force" since I dropped out of high school (about 18 and a half years now). Throughout those years I have had many jobs, but recently found a passion for finance. After working 3 years as a fiscal tech for Siskiyou County I decided to go back to school. My major is in Business Administration/Accounting, with a plan to transfer to SOU to continue my education and receive my bachelor's degree.

I have a couple of favorite moments I would like to share that happened this summer. My mother-in-law moved from Idaho to be closer to us (her and I are like Peas and Carrots), and we almost finished our cabin we have been working on for 2 summers. A couple more summers and it will be done. Our Summer has been filled with a lot of sweat as well as fun. My number one priority is my family and will do what it takes to help them be successful. It's difficult for me to choose one particular focal point to be my "special moment". I'd much rather pick something that encapsulates the previous year and this summer as well. During these times I felt great, though uncomfortable. This is because I have been working on myself by trying to get out of my comfort zone and do things I would not normally do. These things include dancing, going out of my way to talk to people, and to be present in the moment.
