         <description><![CDATA[<p>In the lower half of Georgia, the coastal plain provides a suitable environment for gopher tortoises. This region typically has sandy soils, which are crucial for the tortoises for burrow construction.</p><p><br/></p><p>We can find out what type of habitat gopher tortoises need by examining the range map of Georgia and conducting more research about them. We can also look at their adaptations and features.</p><p><br/></p><p>Gopher tortoises have a high, domed shell. This shell design provides protection from predators and allows the tortoise to withdraw its limbs completely. They also have strong limbs and claws. These are adapted for digging burrows in the sandy soil.</p><p><br/></p><p><br></p>]]></description>
