There isn’t any foreground, midground, or background, but I honestly don’t think this piece needed it. It’s an asymmetrical piece, more weighted towards the left side and it brings your eye to the bird’s eye. They also used zentangle in creative ways to show the different textures of the feathers and the directions they’re going. I don’t know what quote or song they used for inspiration but the drawing feels very free. The lines are a tad bit wobbly, but the pose still looks pretty natural and that stability comes with practice. The contrast between white and black in the feathers looks really cool as well. The style of the artwork is good. I like the patterns and the way it was made. He/she could have added more into it so there would not be so much white on the image and I would have more I could say. He/she could also have done something with the mouth to make it look more creepy looking.

The meaning of this could be a fish getting eaten or you can’t always run from your fears sometimes you have to stand up to them. Also it could just be the fish is hungry.

They used the digital form of media for this piece. For me personally, I think that the person is the main part of the artwork; since my eyes keep leading back to it. But it’s also hard to see sometimes with the background being very distracting. I think I do see the compositional rule, especially with the hand; it leading the eyes to what to the person is reaching for.

Their art was in a zentangle format which they did really well with. They incorporated so many different things to look at which can keep your eye searching for more and more which I love. They also chose to have their art flow off the paper but leaves you with enough to where you can imagine what it looks like. My favorite part of this piece was the steps that start at 1, 2, 3 then cut off but later reappear as 49, 50, etc. this painting has so much in it but leaves room for your imagination.

The element that I notice first is the woman’s hair because it is really dark and detailed. This piece makes me feel relaxed or calm because the woman in the drawing has her eyes closed and she looks relaxed or at peace. A composition technique that I see is leading lines because I see the hair first, and then the part leads down the nose so I see the eyes and lips, then her jawline and body. Then I can also see is rule of thirds because her hair is in one third, and her lips and nose are in another. They did a good job with shading correctly, and making her hair and lips especially realistic and it is balanced because the hair is on one side, and her face on another. The primary subject of the piece are the two eyes and the damaged lower jaw. The style is very much realistic in form, and to a lesser degree; shading, but more cartoon or graphic design-like in detail. The main compositional rule I see in use is the rule of two-thirds to draw attention to the eyes and to the text. To me the piece conveys this message of feeling empty or apathetic or in some way broken, demonstrated by the missing of all flesh besides the eyes and optic nerves and the lack of most of the skull and the damage in the jaw, as well as the thoughts and feelings described by the text.

With the main media being pen, this piece encapsulates lots of detail and symbology within it, despite how small and simple it actually is. It seems to be referencing something very specific, that is something almost unfamiliar, alien like, a separate state of consciousness, death, etc… I think this is a great abstract piece, that certainly conveys a unique feeling to the observer.
