She has to compete with them to keep the listeners' interest. She also has to compete with them for radio plays, digital streaming, selling records, award nominations, winning awards, digital royalties, and sponsorships, just to name a few. Britney's reign was in the early 2000's and was one of the most recognized faces of pop music then. Since then, she hasn't quite made the comeback or attracted as much attention as she used to during her prime time. All singers have to compete to keep the public engaged on them and their music. Their livelihood and success depends on what the people like. But the competition is what pushes singers and artists to become better and improve.

But if she were to increase the prices of her products (merch, tickets, CDs) the demand would decrease and supply would increase. She is a single mom who has 2 sons. With her demanding job as a performer she can't always be there for her children as much as she wants to be. She dedicates a lot of time towards her career, but the time compromised could possibly have been used to spend time with family. On average, she does about 140 shows a year that are approximately 80 minutes long. That is 186.6 hours out of her year that she could've spent with her sons. But for Britney, the cost must outweigh the benefit for her to continue performing. She also says that she would liked to have been a teacher if she hadn't been so successful as an artist. The opportunity cost of her almost 2 decades as a singer was she had to give up the next best thing: being a teacher.

She only performs in one location, Las Vegas, and it's only running for a limited time; five years to be exact. (Fun fact: her Las Vegas show contract ends on May 20, 2017). Another incentive that she doesn't directly acknowledge, but the public keeps in mind, is how much longer she will be able to perform. Britney Spears is (sadly) on the older side of current pop musicians. Soon enough, she won't have the willpower to perform her energetic Vegas show. That, for some people, is enough to make them buy a ticket before it's "too late".
