The Beitou Library is the first green building in Taiwan, primarily constructed with wood. Its architectural design resembles a large elevated treehouse, featuring extensive windows and French doors that cleverly utilize natural light, allowing the library to seamlessly integrate with the surrounding nature.

Beyond its outward appearance blending into the natural environment, the library is hailed as a "breathing" library due to the eco-friendly planning inherent in green architecture.

Why does green architecture involve planting a lot of vegetation around it?

The primary goal of green architecture is to promote energy efficiency in buildings. Green buildings need to adapt to the local climate and geographical conditions. For instance, in rainy areas, there is a focus on improving ventilation, while in hot regions, the emphasis is on effective shading. This not only regulates temperature differences between indoor and outdoor spaces but also reduces energy consumption from heating and cooling systems, resulting in significant cost savings on electricity bills for residents.
