"A broader reason is that today's young adults have grown up in an environment in which news about political events has been increasingly more avoidable and less shared than in the past" (6).

This quote explains how the current state of youth political involvement in the U.S. is declining. It describes how youth in the modern day have many more options than to be interested in politics. For example, instead of watching a political debate on TV, there are various other options and channels to watch. I agree with this explanation because when the news or a political debate is on I would much rather watch something else that I want to see. However, I think that during this election it was a lot harder to avoid because opinions and reports were posted on social media and constantly talked about.

"In 2008, when the National Election Study asked a nationwide sample about their general level of interest in politics, over half of Americans under the age of 30 said they rarely followed politics, compared to less than a quarter of those over the age of 65" (4).

This quote clearly shows how youth political involvement is not very high. A lot of youth do not care about politics and simply ignore it. Furthermore, this quote explains how the majority of people actively interested in politics are the older people in our society. The youth and future of America are not participating in elections and political events that will affect them in the future. Also, in not participating, the youth will not be experienced or educated if they do decide to get involved

"In sum, young people today have never known a time when most citizens paid attention to major political events. As a result, most of them have yet to get into the habit of following and participating in politics" (7).

In addition to the previous passages, this quote also explains how the youth of America is not very involved in politics. It says that in the past couple years to today, young citizens have not paid attention to events because they feel there has been no need to, except for 9/11. Consequently, many young people have not habituated themselves into participating in political actions. Unless it directly relates to their lives, youth will most likely not participate.
